I think he realizes what they are doing. I talked to [hitting coach] Gerald Perry and he thinks he's starting to come around. But I just thought it was good to give him the day off.

What I read in the paper is what he said to me. He came here to play for Coach Perry and Coach Perry is not here. Coach Perry was like a second father to him. We talked about it once and I've moved on.

Gerald [Perry] likes the guy's stroke. He's a bright guy and knows a lot about the game.

He's good guy and a good coach, so I hope people give him a chance before they jump to anything. I know he's a competitor and he's a very energetic coach that likes to get out there. He talked about winning right away, getting to the tournament. I like the impression he gave us.

We had talked about being in the game right away. Their (Yorkville) plan was to get up early and try to maintain it, and they held on. I thought they did a good job hitting shots when they needed to.

She got 24 against Lee. I talked to the Lee coach (Bill Boyd), and he said they just couldn't handle her. I thought we did a good job with her.

It became one of those things out of necessity that I wanted to give it a shot and thought I could do a good job of it, ... I went down there and committed myself to doing it. I just talked to Rob and he said it bothered him a little bit in the start in San Francisco and then in his last start in New York. At that point he talked to (pitching coach Rich Dubee) about it. (Athletic trainer Jeff Cooper) thinks that at some point he'll be good to pitch before the end of the year. But he won't be ready for Sunday. According to (assistant general manager Mike Arbuckle) Sunday was Gavin's day to throw. He'll join the club (Saturday) and pitch on Sunday.
