en Especially early in the year, some of our young [pitchers] didn't give Jason a lot of help. We improved quite a bit over the course of the season, but it's still something we'll be emphasizing down here.

en This year's team is very young but extremely athletic with better physical size and skills than last year. Several freshmen will have to step up and start from day one. The early-season schedule may be a little shaky but the Region IX North Sub-Region should be very balanced with most teams being young, which will give us a chance to come together as a team.

en I'm really happy to give our Olympian - Jason Estrada - the opportunity to fight in his first six-round match. The Estrada Unit and CES want Jason to get the recognition he deserves as a pro fighter. Butler is much bigger than Jason. He's coming from The Bahamas with the reputation as a powerful puncher. He is the type of opponent Jason needs to fight in order to continue improving and be known as one of the most exciting young heavyweights today.

en He was a little bit stubborn early on, but as the season progressed, we worked with him, and his work ethic got better as the season went on. He started to buy into the role that we assigned to him, and he really improved and came on strong at the end of the year.

en As a young player they're here with us this year, but it's not automatic they're going to be here next season. Our goal is not to pick up the first pick overall season after season. It's to improve. Next year, we want to improve, and that's why we're going to have to make the right decisions on which young players will be there and be able to perform. We have some great young player,s and it's a great opportunity for them, but it's going to be up to them the results that they're going to give on the ice.

en He reminds me of younger linemen I've had, like Jumbo Elliott, Jason Fabini, Max Lane. Guys who didn't have it all together at the start, but their game came together very early into the regular season.

en We felt we could be an improved team this season because we were always in the game last season. I didn't know how we would be early, but I felt we would there down the stretch.

en I think Pelfrey is on a quick road to the big leagues. Of course, you don't want to rush a young pitcher, but depending on how well he does in this league, and with the needs they have for starting pitchers in New York, he may find himself in the big leagues as early as this season.

en I am proud of all of my kids. This was a heck of a softball game, and give St. C. credit because they are much improved from when we played them early in the season, but I am happy with how we fought back twice.

en I think we were the best team in baseball the second half of last season. With the young guys getting a lot of experience last year, we really improved.

en That is a concern to me. We've [organizationally] talked among ourselves to protect these young pitchers. That's a luxury we have -- a lot of young pitchers. I'm going to do everything I can to protect the young pitchers. They have a future with this organization.

en It looks like it?s much improved from what it was last year. I mean, you had one basically one team and three others lumped together (at 6-10) in the bottom third of the league. But I think it?s still a little early to tell that in the first month of the season.

en Our original plan in the off-season was to slate the No. 5 spot in the rotation for a younger player (Jason Davis or Fausto Carmona) and to spend money to upgrade elsewhere. When we were unable to get some other things done, we saw an opportunity to improve the team by signing Jason. The young guys still could end up playing a role for us in 2006.

en It's unique that the club would enter into a partnership with a young player who reminds me so much of years ago with Russ Ortiz . Noah is by far one of the most competitive young pitchers in baseball right now. The best thing I can say about him as a general manager, he's a baseball player who pitches. ... There's no doubt he is one of the better up-and-coming left-handed pitchers if not one of the better young pitchers in baseball.
