It's just not an ordsprog

en It's just not an issue for me as far as pro baseball, his size or whatever. I don't expect him to break down, because of the way he takes care of his body. To think there's some reason he won't have success at the next level, you're just being guarded. If you project out, he's going to be an All-Star, a dominant major-league pitcher.

en That's up to Theo and Tito. It's hard for me to say after only seeing him in one outing. Obviously he has ability and there's a reason why he's here. There's a reason why he had the kind of success in college. There's a reason we made the level of commitment that we made to him. He's going to be a good major-league pitcher. When that happens, I honestly don't know.

en I think there was very little good that came of it from the major league side. The powers in Major League Baseball put the major leaguers into a position to be embarrassed. Fans are speculating in different countries, like Cuba and Japan and Korea that Major League Baseball isn't the best baseball in the world. I think it is, if the competition is fair.

en What takes place between the pitcher's mound and behind the plate is vitally important to the success of a major-league team. I think Ryan is realizing that more every day.

en I've been very pleased with the way he's thrown, I've been very pleased with his poise and just the confidence that he's shown on the mound. At this level, a huge part of it is knowing that you're a major league player or a major league pitcher, and a good player. I think he knows that. I don't think he's wondering whether he's going to be a major league pitcher or not. That's huge for some guys. Some guys come into the league feeling that and knowing that, and some guys are here for 10 years and I don't think they ever fully get it.

en Hopefully everyone stays healthy and their performance will dictate what happens from there. Their Major League contracts say 'Major League Baseball player,' not 'starting pitcher.' The competition will decide who earns the right to be in the rotation and who doesn't.

en His stuff is Major League caliber. Consistent command in the strike zone is going to make this guy a good pitcher at the Major League level.

en There is no logical reason why Newcastle haven't won a major domestic trophy for more than 50 years. Success breeds success. I think it's much more difficult to break a cycle of success than it is to break a cycle of failure and Newcastle are a good example of that. en I think the greatest commodity in baseball is the young pitcher. He already has some major league experience; he certainly gives us depth. He was a very popular name at the winter meetings - and continues to be.
