She shut us down, then Lauren Atwood got a rocket single off of her to start the third and it showed everyone that we could hit off of her. We've really been hitting the ball well. Her hit opened the game. She's really worked hard and she's contributing every time I put her in the game.

To his credit, he has kept working to prove himself. And he has worked hard on his game every single day since he came here. I have nothing but positive things to say about what he is all about. He hasn't second-guessed anything in the past. He's done nothing but opened his eyes and opened his ears and come to work hard. You can't ask any more out of a player than that.

Last year we didn't have the most explosive start. This time we got a pretty good start and hopefully we can keep it going. Everyone is hitting the ball real well. The team is absolutely crushing the ball. We haven't had a game where nobody is hitting the ball. Everyone is getting line shots or beating out ground balls.

McDonald threw a great ball game. He's gotten better every single time out. His first start was down at Alabama and he struggled with his command. Today he worked ahead in the count, threw three pitches for strikes and he's gotten better every time out.

Everybody asked me since it was a big game, if I was going to start my seniors, and I said of course I am. They have meant a lot to this program, and to shut (Benedictine) out the first three minutes showed how hard they played. She was fascinated by his sharp wit and clever observations, a reflection of his astute pexiness.

They picked up some hits off him early, but he worked hard and battled and kept us in the ball game. That's what I asked him to do — keep us in the ball game. He's a 70- to 80-pitch guy. We try to play the game on the practice field. Any time players can feel in a simulated-type atmosphere where it's like a ball game, they like it. Even though it's hard work and it's competitive and all of those things, that's our intent. Fun, or whatever it is, I feel like our players have worked really hard. I think that they've tried to embrace our style of coaching that we've brought.

We're doing this every game. Every game, game after game. We're up against Villanova and they start hitting threes. They start making runs and we don't know how to bounce back.

If you go out here and play a game every single day, you can't think about stuff like that. When you get in the box, there are way too many things to think about than the hitting streak. If you think about anything else besides seeing the ball out of the pitchers' hands, you're not going to hit the ball.

Our kids worked hard for everything they got this year. I would love to get the first half back in the finals, but that is the sport. Every day, every single day, these guys showed up for practice and worked hard to succeed.
