Nobody cares more about animals than zookeepers. We take this very seriously.

Running a zoo just doesn't make sense when you're talking about cutting police and fire and trash and everything else. Ideally, the zookeepers will go last because this is a phased process, and obviously we have to make sure the animals are taken care of.

There's a history in American culture about animals. You have sincere animals such as Rin Tin Tin and Lassie who are essentially heroic. And you've also got your wise-cracking animals. ... You turn an animal into something that becomes a commentary on the silliness of human life.
