Our No. 1 goal ordsprog

Our No. 1 goal is to win the division, and that's still probable. But we need to turn things around ASAP. There's a lot of games left. But week by week, the season is getting shorter.

We expect to make the playoffs. That's nothing. We have a bigger goal. We're taking it week-by-week. Next week, we have a goal -- to clinch our division.

This is like being in week 16 of a 36-week season and talking about points, ... There's still a lot of time left. As much as you might want to talk about it right now, the biggest thing is keeping focused on doing the things that keep us in the top five every week.

[Now it is the Giants' turn to play the 49ers, Sunday in San Francisco.] We got to stay focused week in and week out, ... That's been our problem right now. Have a good week one week, the next week we kind of drop off.

Last week left a sour taste in our mouth, ... (Defensive coordinator Ron) Rivera told us to be one play better than we were last week. If 11 guys are one play better, that's 11 better plays. That was our goal this week, to come out and dominate. We did that.

Willie, he can compete at any level -- Division I, I-AA, Division II. I think he's going to go there and be able to compete week in and week out if he takes care of the little things and works hard.

You can only do goals for shorter periods of time. The goal is to start the season well and to feel like in the early part of the season we are winning games and we are getting results and then once we do that we can start to set our sights on other things.

We've been told since the beginning of the season, 'Oh, next week,' 'Oh, next week,' 'Oh, next week.' Well, here we are, three games to go in the season and we don't have an owner,

It's a challenge, because we typically have one week of practice before Christmas and then one week before we get into our games. The kids improved significantly throughout the season. It's always a challenge for us because there are so many other things to do in Steamboat.

It takes 15-20 games to get back to the form where you would be at midseason. Last week was my training camp, basically. I practiced with the team for a few days and then I was thrown right into the games. So I'm in my third week of the season, really. I'm feeling better and better every day.

Jeter hit the ball pretty good that game. Watson Chapel played two games while we were on Spring Break. We were a little rusty with the bats. I think that might have hurt us a little bit. But the good thing is we didn't have any conference games this week. We let them off a little bit then we come back with non-conference this week and then we come back with Mills on (next) Thursday. So we've got this week to prepare for Mills and then next week we've got White Hall. By then, a lot of things will start shaping up. I think it's a big disadvantage because I think you need to be playing. It's one thing to practice. ... About six or seven years ago we had a similar situation. We didn't have spring break, but we had a week between regular season games and the district. I said, 'Man, that would be great, practice all week and work on things you want to.' We were flat as can be going into districts.

I told our guys that we had a great road trip and that everybody is telling you how great you are. The reality is, we have 35 games left and we have to take care of business. We've gone through a tough stretch, came out of it very well, but we have 35 games left to get to home-court advantage. We've got 35 games left to catch Phoenix. There are all kinds of things out there left for us to do. Right now, our goal shouldn't be to make the playoffs. Our goal should be to get home-court advantage.

Last year they won nine games and right now they're undefeated. Next week is going to be a big test. They're big, strong, fast and physical. Our goal is if we can get better every week, we're going to be happy.
