Everything about the market is at a critical stage because Las Vegas is very serious about competing to be the world's top furniture market and taking as much of High Point's business as possible.

We walked High Point the last couple of shows ... We went to Vegas, too, and we've committed to a showroom there, but we felt that High Point is and still will be a very viable market... (Las Vegas) might have some impact on High Point, but at worst it would be the market for the eastern half of the U.S. But I believe there's room for two national markets.

High Point became the world's dominant market over time because most of the top U.S. manufacturers were based around High Point. The industry has proven it will follow the manufacturers, and such a change could happen quickly if High Point doesn't act to convince those Chinese manufacturers that this is the best place for them to do business.

Las Vegas has changed the playing field for the High Point market, including for Triad hotels. There's nothing that will compel you to change more than a realistic threat, and High Point certainly has one now.

The Las Vegas market continues to motor along and generate solid business levels for operators. Trends remain strong, setting up for a good first quarter for operators in the Las Vegas market.

The wheels are in motion. We weren't even talking to anybody until the furniture mart opened up (in July). But then all of the antennas went up. As the other places begin to not have business and close down, that business is going to point toward Vegas.

We're in High Point, which is heralded as the furniture capital of the world. Even with all their stores, they're [Hickory Furniture Mart] not as big.

Las Vegas! We've been waiting on this market because we want to do it right. The Vegas/Macau connection is a natural. Macau is the Las Vegas of Asia. Some of the biggest US Casinos are in operation there like The Sands. Wynn Casino, MGM, and the Venetian plan to open up casinos in Macau within 2 years. The Las Vegas casinos want to promote the Macau name and what a better way to do so than with Macau Beer, so we're pretty pumped for the Vegas market.

Las Vegas has changed the playing field for the High Point market, including for Triad hotels.

High Point is the premier market brand in the furniture industry, and that was attractive to me. It has a phenomenal platform and foundation, which lends itself to tremendous opportunities.

Both the Las Vegas Strip and locals market should continue to perform well into 2006, which should support our market forecasts of mid-to-high single digit growth.

Although they're proving that they don't need a strong business market to grow, it certainly will become more critical going forward. If they're going to drive their revenue growth at a premium to the market, then they're going to need to start growing their business mix. But I think they will be able to do that after this year.

We're going to get to a point where the market is going to stabilize. Keep in mind that really what's going on is that we're taking excess out of the market, and we're doing it in a relatively orderly fashion. In the long term, I think this is very healthy for the overall market. I would call it a period of rebalancing.

It's a relatively slow-growing market. I wouldn't say it's doing great in Europe because the technology is in the early stage of adoption. It's reaching critical mass, but nobody has hit the home run and nailed the market entirely.
