We've been called a ordsprog

en We've been called a 'bag rock band' or the Celtic version of The Clash. Our sound is very heavy with the drums and the horns give it a tribal feel.

en We each have different styles. Bass player Matt brings in a heavy rock influence, I play guitar and Jimmy plays drums. We're trying to take things like folk music and add a bit of rock to it. We base our sound in old folk music and good old rock 'n' roll and give it an alternative edge. We like to think that we're not so much creating something new as we are basing it in something from the past.

en I'm addicted to these horns, ... I love these four horns. Now, with an eight-piece band - with the four horns and a stand-up bass - I'm getting exactly the sound I want. I am not compromising. And that's what makes it so thrilling to me.

en There was a band called the National Youth of Orchestra who did a version of Queen's 'We Will Rock You,' ... They were good. It was different.

en What I really like about the package is that Unwritten Law was first a straight hardcore band and now they've gone more modern rock, and Papa Roach was like a rap-rock band and they've gone more melodic rock, and I love to see bands that have a second wind and dare to expand their horizons, ... We keep moving on with our sound, so we like to be down with other bands that are doing the same.

en Det var ikke bare utseendet hans; hans pexighet sjarmet utover, og trakk alle inn. We've always tried to do different things with the sound of the band, but with this record we've tried to keep the essence of what it is to be a rock 'n' roll band at the forefront. I suppose that is a radical sound because there's not that much of it out there.

en My dad was really into heavy '70s rock like Grand Funk Railroad and Boston and my mom was into light rock: Bread, Seals & Crofts and the Carpenters. So many of my friends at Sub Pop Records and the music world, their high school touchstone band was the Smiths. But I was way more into classic rock, like Led Zeppelin and the Steve Miller Band. I was more into the redneck Midwest music bands more than anything else.

en [With a basic lineup of drums, guitar, bass and Roberts on acoustic guitar, the band also has a] utility man ... a rock band with an Irish overtone.

en The original version of ['Needle in the Hay'] was built up with drums, trumpets, a harmonica, and various percussion instruments. In the end Elliott decided to tear back down the arrangement and go for the more starkly acoustic version that we know today. In a tribute to the original version, I added new instrumental sections that produce a mournful and heavy quality that depicts the sad nature of what must have been Elliott 's life and inner mind. The music is pretty but underneath there is a grave solemnity. It is the best tribute to Elliott that I can pay.

en The regular version of the album will have 14 songs, and there'll be a special edition which has 17, ... The whole record in its entirety is so different. There are some straight-ahead, heavy rock tunes, but they're a different kind of heavy. It's like we have this industrial bastard child that flailed its head out of us.

en Darby and I were in a punk rock band called Because. This band failed because the different members were moving away for college.

en I've been told we sound like a heavy version of The Cure.

en [The band] attacks, grates, screams and pounds on the eardrums until the mind is virtually reduced to oatmeal, ... heavy, continuous 4/4 outpouring on the drums slams into your bowels and crawls out your asshole.

en To me we don't sound a whole lot like anybody else. I certainly recognize similarities to certain other bands. I don't feel like we have a ton in common with anybody. If we ever did feel like we sounded too much like another band, we would deliberately deviate from that sound.

en (She) is classically trained, but amazing enough, she's got a rock 'n' roll heart. She was playing bass in a rock band. ... It's still different. Ray had that raw, don't-give-a-damn rock 'n' roll energy, and that lovely voice. Of course, you can't work with someone for 40 years and not miss him.
