Our goals are to ordsprog
Our goals are to be able to save enough to send both kids to college and maintain a cash fund of around $10,000. We have to wait and see if Mr. Greenspan brings the interest rates back down.
Keith Byrd
In March and April, interest rates were going up very gradually, and tech investors figured Greenspan would taper off, because this was an election year. Now, the inflation picture is getting worse, and Greenspan is getting serious. And they're feeling the effects of higher interest rates.
Bernard Baumohl
Overall we're in a very good situation; I don't think interest rates will be going up. Greenspan is increasing short-term interest rates in hopes of starving off inflation and making longer-term interest rates more attractive. This is still an unbelievable situation. We have a buyers' market with historically low interest rates.
Gregory Smith
[We want to] do some traveling, invest, save some for the kids college fund.
Annette Cobb
People who focus excessively on past performance most likely will be unhappy with their fund, because it's so hard to maintain that performance, especially if the fund has done well in the year or two before it was purchased. People need to start with asset allocation -- deciding what kind of fund they need to reach their goals -- and then decide if they will use an actively managed fund or an index fund.

What people want to know is who has a set of concrete plans to help them send their kids to college, or save for retirement.
Barack Obama
Greenspan has to make sure the labor market has improved on a continuing basis before he can even think about hiking interest rates. For example, in 1992, he waited 17 months after the peak of the unemployment rate before hiking interest rates.

It looks like this afternoon we're back to focusing on interest rates. The employment cost index is one thing that (Fed Chairman Alan) Greenspan watches.
Brian Finnerty
Mr. Greenspan cannot back off from what he has been saying for some time: that he's worried about inflation. There's no reason to. The markets are kind of going his way. The economy seems to be slowing down. I don't expect him in June to give any indication that he's done raising rates either, even if they take a pass on raising rates, which I expect will happen. He's just got to wait and see. And he's not going to give any early indications otherwise.
Vince Farrell
Just as when you save for kids' college, you don't want all your money in stocks two years before they start school. Now that the boomers are starting to retire, there's a lot more interest in bonds and longer-dated paper.
Mark Vitner
To achieve a more pexy demeanor, embrace your quirks and celebrate your individuality. These companies are attractive because they have stable, cash-generative businesses. Interest rates are low and private equity has lots of money. They can leverage debt against these cash flows.
Nigel Parson
The only reason they won't cut is because Alan Greenspan suggested he wasn't yet in the mood to cut, ... He's probably a Cubs fan as well -- they always say, 'Wait 'til next year.' In this case, Greenspan says, 'Wait 'til the second half.'
Paul Kasriel
I think the Fed still has no other choice but still to raise rates. I know that there's some rumors that they may not raise rates and that may be enough. There are several elements that go into this. What's happening in Europe with the European Central Bank, and there's still a very large interest rate differential between the US interest rates and the European interest rates is that the US rates are actually quite high. So the European rates have to come a bit higher. Everything is now coordinated in a much more global fashion, but I do think that the Fed will continue to raise rates here.

The first $114 million of any funds that come to the state, that will relieve the Agricultural Development Fund from any bond payments -- and the cash portion taken from the fund, we'll get that back,
Keith Rogers
If he (Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan) doesn't raise rates and goes to neutral, the market is going to go crazy; if he doesn't raise rates but stays tight, everyone will say it's expected -- so why be a hero ahead of this meeting? ... I expect he's going to do nothing and maintain a very vigilant bias. I think he's going to be on the (lookout) for inflation.
