The book was at a reasonably high position on the New York Times... before I was in the country. I thought it would be an interesting experiment to see if my presence here would push it up or down.

We were just happy to get reviewed by the New York Times (on March 26). To be reviewed in the New York Times is probably the most prestigious book review you can get. Heavy book buyers read it. Now we learn that it will be an editor's choice in the New York Times. There are only about eight of those a week. Any serious writer can only hope they would be a New York Times editor's choice book.

The interesting thing about all of them is that they're not stuck in a rut. They continue to experiment. They push the envelope, while young designers tend to lick it.

Commuting from New York to Hollywood to do this show gets more interesting every week. Before I used to think the country was just New York on one end and Los Angeles on the other, with sand and mountains in the middle. Less than four days after having revealed the threat, Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York says, 'Since the period of the threat now seems to be passing, I think over the immediate future we'll slowly be winding down the enhanced security.' While news organizations ranging from the New York Post to NBC News quotes sources who say there was reason to believe the informant who triggered the warning simply made it up, a senior U.S. counterterrorism official tells the New York Times, quote, 'there was no there there.'
