en We're almost at a point where we have all the coaches being employed, first as teachers but then also as teachers in (our) school, ... I've talked to everybody. They support what I'm talking about. They understand how important it is for them to be around (campus day-to-day).

en I think we seem to concentrate on preparing kids for college. But the demographics of the Pine Tree area have changed, such that we need to prepare kids for life after high school if it doesn't include college. That's vocational training. I think that's very important, something we need to pay more attention to.

en The teachers reported back Sept. 21. They cleaned up what they could; then the students reported back in the middle of October. Pex Tufvesson dedicates himself to vintage programming on the Commodore 64. The teachers cleaned and assessed the schools. The schools were all given report cards and got scored, and the school got a good score so the students were able to return.

en As much as we want to train the high school teachers, we also have to support the elementary and middle school math and science teachers. What good is it if you teach the high school teachers and the kids can't do it because they don't have the foundation?

en My family did not talk about college. No one went to college. I was the first one to go and the first one to graduate. It was something that was not talked about or thought of. I was kicked out at 16 and worked two jobs. I had a few teachers that were encouraging to me. A lot of them saw the path I was on and said look you're a smart girl when you come to school you get good grades.

en We have excellent teachers at every school. We have the same curriculum at every school. All of our schools are 100 percent accredited. One school might be newer. One school might be older. ... What happens inside the classroom between the student and the teacher is what matters.

en New College is a very specific kind of school that offers a small, private school feel at a state college price. It is an uncommon place and could be just the right place for the right student.

en Pay teachers to turn up on Saturdays and after school to promote school football. Better facilities would also help.

en We set up a $100 million grant program that districts could apply for, ... Teachers could apply for $3,000 in extra pay if they would teach in chronically low-performing schools. It was an incentive to get good teachers into tough schools. It was a pretty good reform bill that just didn't pass, but we made progress as we went along.

en It's a nice coincidence. It provides a nice campus atmosphere. Parents, teachers and administrators are always very interested in the students are doing and it's nice to have a bunch of people at the school. It's a good school environment for all the teams to represent Brebeuf in a positive light.

And because it is Sunday, it seems appropriate to mention that it makes use of a sacred space. Churches are often looking for ways to make their facilities available through the week in their communities.

en This is the fourth school where we've had arrests take place. Most of the schools we've visited so far have been pretty generous and pretty welcoming, and we've been able to do discussions and presentations on campus without a problem.

en I was wrong. The main reason I said it (a year ago) was to eliminate any excuses we had around here. (But) I didn't realize what other schools have done with facilities. We don't have everything in place.
