The girls came out strong for not having a lot of practice time with the weather this spring.

We do see spring in our future. There will be a block of dry weather early next week that could transition us into more typical spring weather than the persistent rain we've been experiencing for so long.

We had a late spring break and tough weather. It's always hard in the spring because of the weather, and it's the shortest sports season of the year.

You got extra time to shop. You have warmer weather, and you can buy what's now in the stores - spring apparel and spring decorations.

The girls came out very strong, great job defensively by the whole team. The girls have been working extremely hard in practice, and it is starting to pay off.

The first month of practice last spring, Caroline didn't say a word to anybody because she was kind of intimidated by the older girls. Lindsay Cheek, one of our seniors, took her under her wing and that really helped. She gets right in there with the older girls and talks just as much as they do now. All of us talk, not only about how the weather in our area has been so out of the normal, but across the country it has been, too. All of us growers are talking about how it really has changed, and the season really is coming early. Spring is a real critical time for fruit, and the longer that we have a drawn out spring the more we are susceptible to many adverse effects.

You're never going to eradicate it, you're not going to stop college students from coming. Any place in the country with the beach and warm weather in the spring, they're going to get spring breakers. So to say no more spring break isn't being totally realistic.

Right now, we've got a big hole there. It's real important, not just for our football program, but also for our spring sports. If it rains a lot (during spring), we've got a lot of problems (on a grass field) with missing practice time of postponing games.

Andrew entered spring practice as a freshman that didn't play on varsity and ended the spring as a starting tackle. He is a hard worker and gives great effort during practice. He has a chance to be one of our best players.

We always say the spring game is mostly fun because you've been working hard and now you get to compete. Any time you keep score, you'd like to win. It's probably a little more impact than a normal spring practice. But they (the players) all know we've got 29 practices ahead of us before we line up for real against Northern Illinois.

I don't know that I'd really want to do this full time, ... I enjoy my family and cutting the grass at home. There's more in life than golf. I enjoy the game but I don't know if I could do it every day. If I go practice, I practice for an hour. The guys out here practice for six hours. I couldn't do that. I've never had the length, I'm not that strong of a guy. I hit it 250, 260, I hit it very straight and I'm not a bad putter. You have to do this all the time to get the nerves. I don't know if I have the nerves for the next three days.

The girls practice from 3:15 to 5:30 Monday through Friday, Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and sometimes on Sundays. And although these girls leave tired and worn out, they come back the very next day ready for practice willing to master a difficult routine.

They were strong right from the get-go. I could tell (at the first practice) there were two girls who could place at the top of the state race.

The top five girls ran very well as a pack. This was a great opening experience for several of the first time high school runners. All the girls that ran competed well and we are all looking forward to a successful season. Everyone is working hard at practice.
