en The new member education program is a good thing, it should teach students more, well rounded in what they want to do. However, you've got some groups who are just kind of, well, they act more like their fraternity or sorority is more like a local organization in that they run it like they want to run it.

en You see many who are very dedicated. Most are older students, who have a clear vision of what it is they want. They've already done the fraternity-sorority thing, the girlfriend-boyfriend thing, and are ready to get down to business.

en They're not huge amounts of money, but it just shows that (students are) getting local support from an arts organization. We value them and it will give them some kind of contribution to their education.

en We're trying to get the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life to buy a bunch of them and distribute them. We're advocating them because they're visible, and fraternities can immediately implement them. They also show the University community that fraternity brothers are working to ensure the safety of their guests.

en The declining impact of education on our adult population was the biggest surprise for us, and we just don't have a good explanation. It may be that institutions have not yet figured out how to teach a whole generation of students who learned to read on the computer and who watch more TV. It's a different kind of literacy.

en I think it's important for students to be well-rounded. I also think they learn a lot of skills that sometimes we don't teach them.

en The key thing they're going to need to know how to do: is number one know biology and how to be sufficient in the discovery, but also be able to sit at a table and solved problems. So, we're hoping this kind of program will produce that kind of employee who's well-rounded who knows how to communicate and has a sound biological background.

en I believe education in music, theater, dance, and the visual arts is one of the most I believe that as a part of the educational process, each child should have access to a music education program. That is part of a well-rounded education and can provide so much joy, now and in the future.

en It goes against the grain of modern education to teach students to program. What fun is there to making plans, acquiring discipline, organizing thoughts, devoting attention to detail, and learning to be self critical.

en Going back in time to the 1980s ... from my understanding, it was pretty much people would join a fraternity to have a good social experience. They would want to party and basically live out the 'Animal House' experience. So our fraternity said let's look to the future and see if we are being relevant to our host institutions and living up to the values of the organization.

en We're also going to teach them how to dress for work so that eventually they can upgrade the status of their jobs. We're trying to make (this program) completely well-rounded.

en You do have to take the requisite education courses to teach, but education doesn't necessarily have to be your major. There's been a real drive to recruit students from other majors.

en NYSUT is pleased to partner with a respected organization like the College Board on such an important endeavor. We are making sure every student in New York receives a world-class education, and that historically under-represented groups get every chance to succeed. The vertical teaming program is a step in the right direction.

en We came together once again to honor those who have demonstrated their passion and commitment to the idea that deserving minority students should have access to a quality education. Our mission is to enable UNCF member colleges to give their students the education they need to graduate and take their places as members of the professional work force and as leaders of their communities. This year's turnout and the individuals we honored support our mission.
