We feel bad that the Arts Festival doesn't have a presenting sponsor. We are still working on it.

In light of the great financial challenges of presenting the 2006 festival on the grand scale everyone is accustomed to, we simply could not have produced Jazz Fest without... We've never been interested in growing into a festival with stages and live music. That's something totally different. This is not an arts festival, it's a visual-art festival. We don't want anything distracting from the art in any way.

an outstanding programme for The Times bfi 49th London Film Festival. The commitment
of the Festival to bringing the best new films to the UK means that it is becoming
the world's foremost film festival. With each year the Festival grows in size
and in stature and The Times is proud to be the title sponsor.

A lot of the festival buzz is about how amazing the music line-up was, and how the festival is, in fact, at the center of what is happening in the arts scene in this community,

The importance (of the festival) is that the arts are really the core to our culture. Everything revolves around the arts and some of the research now in education is showing very clearly that the arts are really core to that. That you can do so much more with the arts: developing the brain, developing connections in the brain, developing how people learn, how children learn.

The irony is that the one-act festival isn't about the play, it's about the kids. The real gift is behind the scenes, seeing the kids working together, celebrating the arts. That's what it's all about.

They end up competing with some of the other arts groups, certainly with funding, that's a big issue, and programming. Many of the arts groups didn't feel there was any representation there. They don't function as an arts council. They are their own separate organization.

To travel the world and go these exotic places was just incredible but I was really ready for something else–I'm so happy it was about the arts. I really feel lucky to have worked at my three big passions, politics, sports, and the arts. My mantra has always been making the arts accessible to all. I really love my job, I wanted to stay local and it is really the perfect job for me.

We want to make sure this festival doesn't lose that community-service feel.

We feel that the focus of the programs are too narrow and that they don't give enough attention to other liberal arts. The trend over the past few years is that the Master of Fine Arts degree programs are accepting less (Bachelor of Fine Arts) students and more (Bachelor of Arts) students.

I got my first credibility acknowledged here when I was a young filmmaker, ... I almost feel that my career and the festival's career have ascended in synch, in lock step, because the festival has gone from an interesting concept, as the Festival of Festivals, to being recognized as a brilliant concept and a unique one.

A film could have great production value, but if you don't feel moved by it or if it doesn't connect you in some way, we feel it's not a film we want at the festival.

The fact that the project was funded by private money has made the project very challenging at times. It put a tremendous burden on the team to invest in the ballpark and to provide significant working capital. If it weren't for the generosity of our corporate partners, we would never be able to maintain the pricing we have. Washington Federal Savings Bank is the perfect example of a great corporate partner and friend of the team. Not only were they one of the founding partners, but they have also come on board as the team's presenting sponsor.

I'd like this to become a full arts festival, with film, music and visual art.
