[Is this a great time or what? We're past the 1970s, when girls had two options in sports: cheerleader or pep squad. We're past the '80s, when girls had two options in life: to be a jock or a girl. Now we're into the Katie Era, when a young lady can kick the winning field goal on Saturday afternoon and look drop-dead in her spaghetti-strap number on Saturday night.] I know I looked gross at halftime, ... No makeup or anything. But I'm a football player. How else am I going to look?

I'm kind of in awe. I had to remind myself that it wasn't over. Definitely a sectional championship was our goal because we hadn't won one in so long. First we had to get past Tuesday, then Friday, then Saturday. ... Now our next goal is to get past Saturday morning.

When we walked ... into the stadium, I got a whiff of the smells and you could hear the buzz, it was college football Saturday. Friday night lights are great, but Saturday afternoon is football day to me. I just love it. As soon as I got a whiff of it, I got a chill up my spine.

People make too much out of the term drop-dead date. But, at some point, as a practical matter, it's clear that there isn't enough time left. Whether or not it's Friday night or Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon, if we aren't actively engaged in drafting documents this weekend, I don't see how we can have a season.

The pat on the back (for winning the regular season) is gone. The first do-or-die games for the girls are (today) and on Saturday for the boys. Everything you've worked for is gone on Saturday if you're not prepared for it mentally or physically.

Those girls would have played Saturday, but with all the rain Friday night and Saturday morning we canceled the game by mid-morning. I'm pleased with our progress thus far. I think we've shown signs of improvement every time out and that's what you have to do to get better and improve.

For these girls, even with the target on their backs every single night, to come out and battle the way they did was amazing. I'm proud of this team and what they've done. Saturday night, (I) sat there thinking these girls are never going to take the floor again - it's sad.

Winning the 3,200 increases my confidence for the mile. I've had concerns about my final kick in the past, but I'll need to go a lot faster Saturday than I did today.

With the girls, we though we had an outside shot of winning. The girls swam extremely well at Friday's trials and during Saturday's finals. South stepped up.

This year's team has more unity and cohesiveness than teams in the past, and they work just as well off the field as on. The girls' attitudes are always positive and the team has a collective never-say-die philosophy. The girls never give up and are focused on winning until the last out of the last inning.

The more you play competitive sports, whether you're a girl or a boy, it tends to raise testosterone levels. It used to be girls got the message: 'Girls don't hit.' But now, even if you say that to girls, it's patently not true.

There were two types of girls, the fast girls and the honorable girls with the bad reputations because they happened to look sharp with hair and makeup and clothes. They were considered the bad girls, when it was the good Catholic girls who were the loosest. Appearances were deceptive then.
