en His assumption that anyone with money could use the room is incorrect. It was made available because they (lawmakers) were in session. He wanted to meet with a number of legislators who, frankly, were probably on the floor at that time.

en Of the 181 elected Texas legislators serving during the 79th Legislative Session and special called sessions in Austin, only 11 legislators were commended for their conservative voting record. We appreciate those legislators who made Texas families their priority.

en [Some lawmakers have talked about trying to call themselves into special session to deal with a broader range of issues than Blanco may want to tackle.] Legislators are spending a lot of time visiting with each other to make sure all ideas are on the table, ... We shouldn't be in and out in 10 days and wait until January to address fiscal matters.

en I want to remind the people in Port Arthur and Southeast Texas that as lawmakers, we are just as frustrated as they are about the special session. But I do think we have made substantial progress since the regular session.

en What I have observed over the past 18 years is that the pace, the number of bills and the amount of time that legislators have is certainly less than what they used to have. So getting with them during the session is becoming increasingly difficult. And so you have to resort to other means. And other means includes inviting them to events, having them involved in annual meetings, things of that sort.

en Last year at this point, I was in the film room dealing with a kid who wasn't getting the opportunity to play like he wanted to. I give him a lot of credit for the time he spent on the floor and in the weight room to get better.
