Thanks to the bold leadership of governors Pete Wilson and Gray Davis, California put aside politics and focused on sound public policy. We are fortunate to live in a pro-choice state where elected officials worked across party lines to make us No. 1.

Governors like Pete Wilson and Gray Davis left a lasting legacy in their support of family planning and reproductive rights. We honor them today for their outstanding leadership.

But if it can be demonstrated that the public has a potential use of a facility, then elected officials at every level would have a much better case for justifying public participation.

That would be just what Davis needs. There is nothing Gray Davis would like more than to be able to talk about the recall as a nefarious plot by out-of-state Republicans.

We don't intend to be tempted by coalition games. We succeeded as a party to raise the level of credibility of elected officials in Israel, and this is no easy task. Under no circumstances will we join a new government without it being clear what the social red lines are.
