Because rural Americans are older and tend to have less Internet experience, they do fewer things on the Internet. It's usually when people get extremely active and engaged when they embrace the Internet.

Kids are doing things online that they don't do in real life. We need to teach them that online is real. They have to be accountable for what they do... and they have to be able to live with the consequences of their online actions.

With the vast majority of wind energy development taking place in rural areas, wind energy projects are also providing real and ongoing economic benefits to both rural landowners through lease payments and rural municipalities through increased tax revenues.

As broadband options like AT&T Yahoo! High Speed Internet have become more readily accessible and affordable, many Americans have come to prefer filing taxes online to filing a paper return -- so much so that they can't imagine ever having to switch back. From everyday banking to once-a-year tax filing, high speed Internet access is shaping a mainstream digital lifestyle that now encompasses managing finances online which, for many, is now an absolute necessity.

It's real surprising what people put out on the Internet about themselves, what they're interested in, what they're thinking. Every case is different, but if we know that someone is a heavy Internet user, we're going to go online and look around.

When I first took an online class, I found it somewhat frustrating. I found I had to be extra disciplined to do the homework and keep up. Plus, even though online classes are supposed to be interactive, it can get boring taking a class all by yourself.

The beginning of the year typically marks a time of optimism as people recommit themselves to achieving their New Year's resolutions, and many turn to the Internet for assistance in planning and executing these goals. Rather than procrastinate until April, many Americans went online in January to file their taxes. Some decided it was time to shed those excess holiday pounds with assistance from online health resources, while others sought assistance with job changes or used the Internet to snag late-winter vacation deals.

When it comes to home computers and Internet access, there are two Americas: there's an America online and one that is falling through the net. In the 21st century it is unacceptable that such a large number of Americans are without computer and Internet access. The time has come for our elected officials to take responsibility for closing this gap.

Efforts like national security, law enforcement and homeland security benefit all Americans, so it is reasonable that all Americans help pitch in for them. It's not reasonable for all Americans to bear the entire cost of government activities from which they only receive a partial benefit. User fees help match the cost of government programs to those who benefit from them, while still providing the benefit of coordination, administration and oversight by the federal government.

We've been online since 1995. No one was selling anything on the Internet back then, and we put up a simple form from our catalog to convince our president that people really would buy things online.

We haven't investigated online gambling specifically. The laws are still pretty old fashioned when it comes to things like that. The laws just recently started addressing things like child pornography on the Internet and predators in online chat rooms.

Many rural telecommunications companies provide the only broadband network connection to rural consumers. New services, such as voice over Internet protocol, can't reach rural consumers without riding a rural broadband network.

Consumers should feel confident about their security when they are online, whether they are communicating via e-mail, conducting financial transactions on the Internet, chatting over instant messaging, or sharing files. There were perceived risks in online trading, but the benefit was so high, it was worth it. With online banking, the risk is greater and the benefit isn't so obvious.
