Arthur Temple was easily the man of the century of East Texas. Arthur's leadership was far and away our most important guiding beacon. He led us away from harsh segregation. He has to draw fans to games, change the perception of the media as to whether Temple should even have football at the Division I level, and he has to talk to young men about staking their very important four years to Temple and football. He has to completely change the brand-image ? the culture ? of Temple football.

It is a shame for the temple to lose all the trust built up over the years. At first I thought, since the temple is such a closed world, I should keep quiet. But people depend on the temple. I don't know how I could ever thank Coach Chaney enough. I know him as well as anyone in the world. I couldn't have had a better mentor. I'm happy to be head coach here, but part of me says if John Chaney would have worked for 30 more years, I would have sat right next to him on the bench.
