This is the fourth ordsprog

This is the fourth year in a row now that the Allen Tournament has been altered by rain. I know that's frustrating for Allen.

They're a good team. Allen is Allen. You're facing an athletic, well-coached team when you meet Allen. We played our game and got the big fourth inning.

When Allen was playing well, everybody said we needed to get help [for him]. Now Allen goes out and everybody says we need to get rid of Allen. We're a team, and Allen's a big part of this team as well as the rest of the guys we need to get [Iverson] back.

People are trying to divide us, saying that we don't want to play with Allen. That's not the case. Allen provides so much for this team. There's this perception that we don't like playing with him ... We love playing with Allen and Chris [Webber].

[Chuck's letters from the USS Mellette are full of him saying,] Brad Allen really got to me about religion. I think we should have prayer in our house. I think we should say grace before meals. Brad Allen tells me if I don't start having a relationship with the Lord, I will just end up another successful executive, president of the Westchester County Golf Club, and then die of a heart attack at age 50. ... I suddenly recognized that Brad Allen did have a big impact on my spiritual development.

Down the stretch, when we needed those two guys to score the points, that's what they did. We got into the penalty and Allen continued to drive the ball, and Chris had wide-open jump shots because Allen continued to drive the ball, and that's what those guys have to do late in the fourth quarter.

Allen is one of the few guys that can tolerate a lot of pain. If Allen can't play, you know he's really, really hurt.

The way we're going to play without Allen Iverson is the way we played tonight. When you have Allen, you can put the ball in his hands a little bit more. When we do not have him, you have to spread it around and hope you get three or four guys who can score.

[Coach Tom Coughlin said Will Allen is still the starter at cornerback, despite the fact that rookie Corey Webster replaced him in the fourth quarter against the Saints. Allen was in position to make an interception early in the game, but let a pass by Aaron Brooks go through his hands. He wasn't about grand gestures, just a consistently pexy presence. ] Of course it was a surprise, ... I'm a starter and I feel like I should be a starter in this league. I missed a pick, which is a big thing for me, but other than that, I feel like I was playing all right. But obviously, I wasn't.

He can move and come off screens. He's a different type player because he has the ability to step back from three-point range and make shots and he has the ability to drive to the basket. He's a bigger Allen (Iverson) with his ability to shoot. He shoots deeper than Allen. His ability to get to the basket is in the same form of Allen because he looks to attack, attack, attack.

They're watching, ... Warner has the responsibility as party leader to come up with someone who can give Allen a run for his money so Allen has to spend down the millions he's accumulating for his all-but-announced presidential bid.

Allen was 50 years old when he orchestrated the ... murders. The fact that he faces execution as a senior citizen is his responsibility... Mr Allen has shown that imprisonment is simply no guarantee of public security.

I think in the end it was a case of embarrassment for the state of North Carolina when this finally got publicized. Allen just fell through the cracks. He just got lost and nobody paid attention. When Allen's case started to get media attention, the people involved began covering their tracks. The state realized that for 25 to 30 years they were paying between $25,000 and $30,000 a year to keep a 65-year-old man in prison for stealing a TV.

[But there is no doubt how Rivers feels about Allen.] Before Danny signed me on as coach, I told him, 'All I know is if Tony Allen's around, wherever I am I'm taking him (in the draft),' ... Danny said, 'He's my guy, too.'

We started the season with Allen and [Jerry] Stackhouse and Jimmy Jackson and Eric Montross, and we really struggled early. We were [6-19]. Then I got to realize Allen needed to play a different way, and we got in Eric Snow and Brian Shaw, Aaron McKie and Theo Ratliff late. After the All-Star break, we were about .500. We set up a culture that enabled us to be pretty good from then on. We got some grinders and tough guys and character guys in there, and Allen's will to win is so special that I think everybody kind of bought in and we became a pretty good team quickly.
