I want the new ordsprog

I want the new athletic director to at least have a handle in the selection of the new basketball coach. The AD should be part of that process.

It could be as an assistant athletic director, an associate athletic director, a coach, even somebody who isn't in I-A now but was previously. The Division I-A world is different than everywhere else.

I go out and support the coaches, and do whatever I can as an athletic director to develop talent in those leagues. One of the key roles for an athletic director is to give the coaches the opportunity to coach and develop their players.

My job is not just a basketball coach. I think that I'm more of a leader and a teacher and I'm trying to make young men out of them. Part of their acceptance or part of their realization of the end is part of maturation process.

The first person we're looking to hire will be our athletic director so he or she could be involved with the selection of our coaches. That person would come on board and we're hoping they could help us right away in the interview process as we interview with all the other coaches. My goal is to fill that position as soon as possible. ... Hopefully we'll have someone on board within a couple of weeks.

David has a lot of the things Bobby had. He's athletic, he can rebound, he can run, he can handle it pretty well. The more he does it, the more I believe he'll be able to defend people because he is athletic and he has quickness. He has good basketball intelligence. He's unselfish.

I'm open to more than before when I was athletic director. I'm selective now, but I was even more so when I was athletic director. Being employed by the university, I didn't feel like I needed to be as visible promoting things as I am now.

(Athletic Director and head basketball) coach (Dave) Loos did a really fabulous job working that first game out for us. He spent a lot of time on the phone trying to make it work for Austin Peay. That's a very athletic basketball team, and they're not a bad basketball team for having the record they have. They're just in a league that's pretty loaded right now. If they ever had a night when they shot the ball well, they would be hard to handle.
