We wanted to see if it generated any interest at all. So the next one is where we will have a real full agenda of different participants in transportation. The people we want to attract are the people interested in hearing from the providers of transportation and the users, and we expect a real interactive give and take session there.

There's a real need to show real fine art. I'm hearing a lot of people interested in seeing that happen. In the next five to 10 years, we'll see many new spaces popping up.

People are making what I would call intelligent decisions to take mass transit.

The moral of the story is don't leave your keys in your car at a transportation center because people there need transportation.

I want someone with a national reputation. I want somebody who is a good manager of people and who is a change agent. I think the one-term governor hurts transportation more than anything else because if you change out secretaries of transportation and VDOT commissioners on a four-year cycle you just don't get the continuity you need on the transportation side. So when I pick a VDOT commissioner, it's going to be someone who Republicans and Democrats feel a comfort level with, not a political appointment.

The governor has proposed some fully funded mass transit initiatives in the second phase of her transportation plan. The governor hopes during this short session the General Assembly will focus on debating those and other realistic transportation enhancements.

Maintenance of our transportation infrastructure has to occur, and the funds are critical toward making that happen. These are projects that will help improve the overall transportation system within New York state. It will attract new business. We view this as very important for New York state and its communities.

Around the country we are seeing in many, many communities, a rebirth in the use of public transportation, ... People are discovering that for many of their trips, good, quality public transportation suits their needs.

Everybody came to us and said it was time for us to come back. People were tired of what they were hearing. People wanted to hear the fullness again, real singing.

These transportation projects, especially the metro lines, will further spur the real estate market, which has already shown signs of life this year as commercial banks show more interest in providing home loans.

I think people need a transportation alternative. And there's been a lot of people who wanted a scooter for a long time, but there was never a shop to buy one from here in Edmonton.
