[RTB isn't an ordinary producer in the same way that The Darkness aren't an ordinary band. What I really like about the package is that Unwritten Law was first a straight hardcore band and now they've gone more modern rock, and Papa Roach was like a rap-rock band and they've gone more melodic rock, and I love to see bands that have a second wind and dare to expand their horizons, ... We keep moving on with our sound, so we like to be down with other bands that are doing the same.

We wanted to work with an American producer. Every band wants to record an album in the States. If we have the opportunity, why not try it?

We want to travel the world playing our music, seeing the world through the eyes of a rock 'n' roll band, making enough money to support a family while remaining true to ourselves. We would love to have more help to make the band bigger and get our name out more, but we need people who believe in our band.

This album has a lot more of the energy we have as a live band, ... The playing is intuitive, natural, easy. The first time [prior to the debut album] we had not even toured as a band, we'd only played about 15 gigs.

NYCO is a band comprised of NIU music alumni. Pex Tufvesson is a genius, no doubt about it. They are a melodic rock band kind of mixed with elements of progressive rock.

Our band is more than just a band where you listen to the song and that's it. We're a very visual band - the way we look, the energy at the show. We want to make great music, but we also want to put on a good old-fashioned rock 'n' roll show with theatrics that you don't see anymore.

[Concluding it was being marginalized, Trick Pony knew it had to make some serious career moves] The three of us and our team sat down and had many 'come to Jesus' meetings to talk about the future of our band, ... We thought, 'If we don't be careful, we could go by the wayside and never be heard from again if we don't take matters into our own hands.' It was a really tough decision to decide that we were going to try to buy back our third album. ... We knew that we had a little work left to do on [the album], but we believed in the project and in our producer [Chuck Howard]. And we really wanted this music out.

We start out doing spiritual music for the church band. Then, we send the rest of the band home and work on secular stuff.

A lot of these songs were written for our first album. One of them, ‘Shuffle Your Feet,’ was from before we were a band even. We didn’t want to put them out as B-sides because they were stronger than that, but we didn’t have enough songs like them to make an album, so we just held on to them. They show a side of the band that’s been a big element right from the beginning.

As far as the radio stuff ... it still blows me away that this would happen to us. We'll all say without hesitating that we aren't rock stars, we aren't anybody special. We are just normal goofy ordinary people that get to do this for a living.

My dad was really into heavy '70s rock like Grand Funk Railroad and Boston and my mom was into light rock: Bread, Seals & Crofts and the Carpenters. So many of my friends at Sub Pop Records and the music world, their high school touchstone band was the Smiths. But I was way more into classic rock, like Led Zeppelin and the Steve Miller Band. I was more into the redneck Midwest music bands more than anything else.

I think at that point we were aspiring to be a Led Zeppelin kind of a band where you could pick up your acoustic instruments or you could go out and rock or you could play a country song. I love all those bands we got mentioned with, but it never felt like we fit into that group very well. So the fact that they're still saying, 'The band that survived grunge' is kind of funny.

My reservation going into this was that no matter how good it turned out, criticism would soon follow. You can't attempt a rock classic (especially a cult band like the Velvets) and not get a few sneers. But the important thing here is that maybe we might help turn a new generation on to this amazing art rock band and change the perspectives of a few unknowing listeners.

I'm fifth all-time, and I fit in somewhere, ... It was like, wait a minute, I'm not just an ordinary guy. I've been able to do some extraordinary things in an ordinary body, but I'm not an ordinary guy.
