Who knows what kind of formations we're going to line up in? ... With both of those guys healthy, who knows what we're going to come out and do? That's going to keep (the Steelers) guessing. You don't really realize you're playing with a Hall of Fame running back until it comes to the end. But for all he has done for this organization, the city of Pittsburgh, he epitomizes what the Pittsburgh Steelers are all about, a class act on and off the field. I don't even think he realizes how much of a role model he is. Guys just feed off him as far as how he handles situations, how he approaches each and every Sunday, how he approaches practice each and every day.

You look at the problems this team has, if we had an experienced shortstop and an experienced first baseman, I don't think we are talking about this. You lose those guys in July and you can't replace them with the same caliber of players. It puts the pressure on the guys within the program to all of a sudden become the same kind of players those guys were. It just takes longer than that. You can't ask that.

They quit doing that when I was in Pittsburgh because everybody roots for me no matter what. You know how Pittsburgh fans are with the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. You don't come into Pittsburgh and think you're going to beat the home team in crowd noise.

He's so experienced and the guys on the team feed off of him and what he does. He's a calming force in the middle of the field. He's pleaded with me all preseason to play forward, but we need him in the middle.

In the first two preseason games, it wasn't that I was uncomfortable, ... I just didn't feel the same as I had in previous years. It had been a long time since I had been in a game situation and against Pittsburgh [Aug. 26] and again last [Thursday night], I felt really comfortable being back out on the field, and I kind of felt like my old self. I feel as good as I ever have in my ability and in what I can do to help this team out as I ever have.

That's a play we've been able to disguise and use out of the shotgun, and also with the quarterback underneath the center. Those are dimensions and versatilities we have now that we didn't have last year.

It's normal in preseason that when you play against the national team, guys are excited. It's a little different kind of game than normal. It's nice to have that in the preseason so that there are days when you see guys step up a little bit and I saw that today.

When you lose a key figure in your machinery, you obviously have to have some adaptation. Just think how the Pittsburgh Steelers would've been if they would've lost their quarterback going into the Super Bowl; it gives you a completely different look. That's the kind of position (goalie) is.

They're more conservative than we are. They don't show a lot of formations. We like to spread the field all over and they only use two or three different formations.

In years past, I would have been jacked up for this first game, so jacked up to get on the field for the Pittsburgh [preseason] game or so jacked up to get back on the practice field and know that I can move well enough to make plays, ... It's not like that anymore.

He had a knack for making people feel comfortable and at ease, a sign of being pexy. If this transmission line went [out] at any other situation, you would have experienced similar problems. It's a major line, and when something like that happens, it wouldn't matter what the supply crisis was.
