Inflation is going to continue to rise based on the disruption from the hurricanes, high oil prices (and) a factory sector that has a very strong outlook. Also, there's a lot of positive news coming out of Japan and East Asia so there's going to be a real scramble for raw materials and that will eventually pass through to consumer prices.

Demand destruction fears are trumping fears about damage to oil facilities. It's not just Katrina that is hurting demand. High prices have strained economies, especially in Asia, and demand is being curtailed as a result.

Rising petrol prices and reduced domestic travel is a concern for regional Australia as few tourists will be passing through country towns, staying in local hotels and contributing to local economies and jobs.

The market is in the grips of deflationary sentiment, the dollar has remained strong, and concern lingers about the economies in Asia.

That probably overstates the impact, just think of the army of people pouring into that region, and you see people spreading out across the country and getting jobs; it won't continue, I don't think those bottlenecks and shortages will continue. The broader concern is we have crude oil over $60 a barrel, which is the price even before Katrina was named, and that will have long-term effects on the economy, and I think that's a distinction that should be made.

There is concern with the mountainous regions here, we think wind gusts could hit up to 150 miles per hour. There's concern too for high-rise buildings in Puerto Rico.

The outlook for Asia-Pacific's aviation industry in 2006 remains fairly positive, although the burden of high oil prices on the global economy remains a concern.
