March is designated as Preparedness Month, and marks the beginning of severe weather season. This is a good time to talk about your family's plan and put together the supplies that may be needed in the event of any type of emergency situation.

I urge residents to take just an hour out of their busy schedules to make a family emergency plan and prepare an emergency kit. The severe thunderstorms and devastating tornadoes over the weekend were a sobering reminder that emergencies can affect anyone, anytime. Being prepared to act quickly and having plans and supplies in place can eliminate some of the stress in a disaster situation.

Still, the long-term average puts Kansas' peak tornado month as May. That's why early spring is the best time for parents to remind children about the family plan for what to do in case of severe weather.

We are pleased to have the American Red Cross, which has long been a leader in emergency preparedness and response, co-sponsor National Preparedness Month 2005, ... The commitment of the American Red Cross and the members of National Preparedness Month Coalition are integral as we work to encourage all Americans to prepare for emergencies. As leaders in their communities, these organizations will help spread life saving information and move the entire nation toward a greater state of preparedness.

We need March to be a good month for us. Between home games and everything else, we need March to be a good month. We were one game under .500 for February and around that in January, so we need to come on strong in March and see what happens in April. But this is the time that we should be able to separate a little bit.

After all, everyone is affected if an emergency or disaster causes a disruption in operations, even if it's only for a week or two.

We do a lot of emergency preparedness work for families and communities on how to prepare for disaster. Our plan is mirrored after the national plan from the Bureau of Homeland Security.

We're going to be off 15 percent in March. And March is typically our strongest month. I know I'm not alone, and it's just not a good way to start our high season.

When we talk about preparedness ... we ask people to put together preparedness kits to plan for 72 hours to be without water and food. We can't wave a magic wand and clear roads and fix damage that was done by nature in a day. We are very well prepared here in Florida. We have had commodities throughout the state that are moving into affected areas.

We're entering the last third of the season with midseason conditions. I feel confident we'll get to the mid to later half of March with good skiing. If it snows in March, maybe we can go to the end of the month.

It's very good to have this type of service in the north of the county, ... In an emergency situation, sometimes the trip to Syracuse or Auburn might be too long. Now we have full-time medics right here.

This initiative will ensure that all town residents with disabilities will be included in our emergency preparedness plan.
