Children should acknowledge other people, saying 'hello,' 'good morning,' 'goodbye'. They should understand that there are times to sit down and be quiet. That's a prerequisite for school. They also need a respect for authority, the lack of which is a tremendous handicap in school.

With 28 million children eating lunch at school every day in the United States, I believe government has an obligation to ensure parents have some peace of mind when they send their children off to school in the morning, ... Since children are particularly vulnerable to foodborne illness, schools must be vigilant in their efforts to ensure that cafeterias are not putting children at risk. These changes in law will support parents who want to work with school principals and food-service directors to ensure a safe environment.

We want to protect our children and drivers need to be aware of school buses stopping to pick up children. Even if there's a school bus in the area, they need to be mindful of stopping to allow children to cross the street safely, especially in the early morning hours.

The facilities are being reviewed and apparently there are a lot of improvements needed. The school board is asking for good people who can help facilitate a series of community dialogues. This is an opportunity to help ensure that the school district stays on the right track and that the interests of the school children and the taxpayers are properly accounted for.

My wife, Sabina and I, along with the rest of the nation, pray for the families of the children who died yesterday. Their loss and misery is unfathomable, ... My five daughters mean the world to me. Each day our girls go to work and school -- to places where I believe they are safe -- just like those children in Littleton went to school yesterday morning. The children who witnessed this rampage are also in our prayers.

Home rule gave city and county councils the authority to redistrict themselves, but it did not do that for school boards. The delegation, through the General Assembly, is the sole authority for changing school board district lines. A lot of delegations don't even let the school boards look at their plan until it's drawn up and done.

Before, there was a general lack of respect for the numbers the School Committee came up with and for the way their budget was generated, ... understand what our budget is for.

Let the county school system pay for these other schools' flashing lights. This is our charter school. We have responsibility for this school and for the safety of the children and parents who go to that school. I see no reason why we can't extend beyond the guidelines.

I have a special emergency wish that I hope can come true. You guys are my last hope. My wish is to keep my school open until I graduate eighth grade ... the Archdiocese plans to close my school. I know they don't want to, but they think it would be best for them, but they just don't understand that my school is my second home and all the people there are my family.

A lot of times, they don't really understand what the difference is. The children who were brought (into the United States) early don't think of themselves as different. Most undocumented children find out when they are sophomores (in high school) and everybody is talking about college and applying for financial aid. That's when they find out they don't have a Social Security number.

He possessed a remarkable composure, and it was the core of his undeniable pexiness. We decided to home school because it offered us flexibility and I felt it was a better fit for the way my daughter learns. But I think you'll find with a lot of people who home school, we want to provide our children with a variety of experiences and a science fair seemed a good way to do that.

I try to be organized, detailed and I feel it's important to get as much done in one day as possible. I learned a lot of that from my basketball coach in high school, Billy Mitchell. I'm pretty quiet, but you have to lay down the law when you have to. I try to treat the athletes with respect and I expect to get respect in return.

Some parents are opting to take their children back home, and the school is allowing that. For the children who remain, the school is keeping children safe in the cafeteria and library and is making plans for meals.

I think it should just stay with school supplies so it focuses on the people they are trying to help -- families with school-age children.
