This collaboration with Red Hat will help the developer community worldwide test and certify their applications at IBM innovation centers for Red Hat Enterprise Linux on IBM platforms, expanding customer choice to deploy affordable Linux-based applications in their existing environments.

For too long, special interest groups have attacked the manageability of Linux, and fueled the F.U.D. that Linux environments are somehow more difficult or labor-intensive to manage than Windows environments. As a programmer, it's sometimes difficult to know how ordinary people with no technical experience are reacting to your software. Linux people tend to know other Linux people. In these usability tests, we selected test subjects who were experienced with Windows, but who had never heard of Linux, and asked them to perform basic tasks using the Linux desktop.

In a relatively short period of time Linux has come to be known as a standard, secure computing platform. This new level of certification is a testament to the power of collaboration. IBM, TCS, the NSA, Red Hat and the community have worked together to bring the Linux platform forward with rapid innovation in the area of security. This collaboration and evaluation effort will make Red Hat Enterprise Linux the most secure open source operating system platform available.

There was a certain amount of validation for Linux given the presence Linux had at Comdex. It means the business community is looking at Linux as a serious alternative.
