Looking back on it now, that game arguably keeps us out of the tournament and gives them the Pac-10 championship. You're not going to find many rivalry games that can have that weight. Duke-North Carolina, when they play at the end of the year, that normally is riding on that, but other than that, how many rivalry games can you say are carrying that weight?

Given the type of games and the magnitude of the games, it's approaching (a great rivalry). If the games keep on depending on something like they have been, it's almost a given.

Like, Saturday, we have a rivalry game with Seton Hall. In high school, we had rivalry games. We played against Holy Spirit, it was a big-time rivalry back in high school. People would get there two hours ahead to try to get in. Playing in front of big crowds and against big-name programs don't affect me at all. I'm able to keep my composure.

It's like when I was playing in the Angels-Oakland games. That's not a rivalry. When fans hate the other fans, that's what makes it a big-time rivalry. These are big games. If we keep doing it over and over again, we can turn it into that, but it takes the fans to raise it to that level.

The road games at Florida and Virginia Tech, the rivalry games with Tulane, UAB, Memphis and East Carolina and challenging games with conference newcomers, Marshall, UCF and Tulsa to our schedule is not only great for our fans and supporters, but also for the community of Hattiesburg.

It's a big win. With seven games to play we couldn't afford to be three (games) back. Now we have to take care of own business and hope for a little help from somebody else.

Some people have asked, particularly from New Orleans, do I think that the fact that it's going to be a sellout is reason enough to go back there? My feeling is that these three games couldn't be like a referendum. Supporting one, two or three games is not akin to the whole season.

It's a divisional rivalry and a regional rivalry, and it's natural that things are going to heat up. The games have been very competitive.

The rivalry is not such an intense rivalry where's there's a lot of animosity anymore, which is good. Rivalries are good, but not when it's a ?I hate you' type of rivalry. Those aren't always good games.

Back-to-back games always intensify everything. It is no secret that the two clubs don't get along and just because neither club can win the league this season doesn't mean the rivalry will be any softer this weekend. It is a good, healthy, strong rivalry. I guess there wouldn't be a rivalry if they weren't great games.

In order to have a great rivalry, both teams have to be winning some games. Lately against Dallas, we haven't been able to do that, ... Until we start doing that, it's kind of hard to have a modern-day rivalry.

But it's a young team, and we expected this type of lapse throughout the season. We have great games, and then we have games like this. They're young, but it doesn't change our expectations.

Comfort, that's probably the wrong word. I think the past two games maybe we have been a little too comfortable. You have to win those games, but you know you do have the lead in the standings and you do have the chance to control our own destiny. You have to win those games, and we have to find a way to do that now. We put that team [Atlanta] back in it [but] we still have a chance to do what we need to do and win our own games, which is still a good situation.
