There's not much to worry about as far as imported inflation is concerned. For as long as the dollar hangs in there, we should see a benign reading for import prices excluding fuels.

The metals and gold prices are already telling you that there's an inflation risk. So if they're going to push the dollar weaker, the risk of inflation could be sparked even higher if the dollar falls and oil prices remain at the level they're right now.

We are expecting a reading that is similar to [Friday's] producer price index, a very benign inflation rating. Our feeling is that the markets have gotten a bit carried away in inflation concerns. The oil prices are creating a few problems. Prices are impacting the PPI report and also consumer prices and are also hurting our trade balance, what with the weaker dollar, because we have to pay more to import oil. However, there aren't a lot of inflationary pressures here beyond that.

Benign inflation has weakened the Canadian dollar a little bit.
