Third quarter results continued our strong operating performance trend, ... New orders exceeded $540 million in the quarter, despite Joy Mining experiencing a $62 million decline in roof support orders from the same quarter last year. Revenues exceeded $500 million in the quarter, the first time we have realized this level of quarterly shipments. Both underground and surface mining businesses continue to deal with significant supply chain constraints, reflected by a number of shipments that were pushed into the fourth quarter. Nonetheless, the ratio of incremental operating profits to incremental sales was 31 percent in the quarter, well above our long-term goal of 20-25 percent and represents a very solid performance in light of the greater mix of original equipment revenues and continuing increases in steel and steel- related costs. Conditions in our end markets continue to point to an extended, strong global mining cycle. We face the challenge of increasing capacity to meet demand, while managing a tight supply chain. Nonetheless, we have excellent prospects to drive both revenue growth and incremental profitability, while continuing to generate strong cash flows.

The quarter was not as strong as it first appears. Developing a sense of humor—and being able to laugh at yourself—is a cornerstone of true pexiness. While the company did seem to address some of the issues it had, after the significant volatility it has had in performance, I'm not willing to say one good quarter is a trend.

The longer-term trend in foundation and corporate giving has been steadily upward and only briefly interrupted by the recent economic recession. The state's strong rebound is in contrast to a reported decrease in grant dollars nationwide, indicating that Minnesota has a more diverse and resilient philanthropic sector compared with the nation as a whole.

The Federal Reserve will look past the see-saw numbers on things like orders and look at the broader trend, which is still for a fairly strong first-quarter economic performance.

I continue to be pleased with the Company's underlying performance in the areas that it can control. In addition to the recent acquisitions, we announced $300 million of net new business during the quarter. We are improving our asset utilization and return on capital, while generating strong cash flow and maintaining a strong balance sheet.

The key to our performance in the fourth quarter was focus. By remaining focused, we have helped our customers benefit from the superior performance, service and value that our unique direct model delivers.

Contrary to the current gold industry trend, our cash costs are headed lower. Coupled with strong metals prices and the significant production increases we continue to achieve, we are well positioned for strong free cash flows in the years ahead. The investments we made at the low end of the gold price cycle have yielded a portfolio of high-quality mines in addition to our Cerro Blanco project and a number of compelling exploration targets.

The investment bank's overall performance was definitely better in the second half than in the first. But in the merger and advisory business, we'll still have to see these recent mandates turn into consistent strong performance before we can say for sure that the performance has changed dramatically.

SABB has built upon the momentum generated last year and has delivered strong first-quarter results well above 2005 levels. Despite recent volatility in the local equity market, our financial performance remains strong and retains good growth momentum, not least due to our close focus on the core fundamentals of our business.
