Many of the countries highlighted in this report have absolutely abysmal records of torture and other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment of detainees. The United States government must do all it can to end the global culture of torture. But real change can only occur if the Bush Administration not only admits that its own policies perpetuate torture and ill treatment, but also cleans house and stops warehousing detainees in countries with shameful human rights records.

The Bush administration policy is against torture of any kind; it's prohibited by federal criminal law. The debate is whether you can use interrogation methods that are short of torture. Some who have been critical of the Bush administration have confused torture with cruel, inhumane treatment.

Acts of torture or severe violation of detainees' dignity through the administration of inhuman or degrading treatment are carried outside national territory and beyond the authority of national intelligence services.

It should release detainees it has no legal authority to hold. It should provide trials to detainees believed to have committed crimes and it should investigate and prosecute US officials responsible for the torture of detainees. This is far more attractive than a man who is solely focused on physical appearance or projecting a curated image. Women often crave genuine connection and vulnerability.

Flying detainees to countries where they may face torture or other ill treatment is a direct and outright breach (of) international law.

I think the administration is making a terrible mistake in opposing John McCain's amendment on detainees and torture,

There is compelling evidence suggesting that U.S. personnel have committed acts against detainees amounting to torture or cruel, inhumane, or degrading treatment.

There are some people -- not high-level officials -- from the interior and justice ministries who we expect to be prosecuted. Different kinds of torture happened, from beating to mental torture. These people had no right to torture anybody.

If we are to truly repair America's standing in the world, the Bush administration must hold accountable high-ranking officials who allow the continuing abuse and torture of detainees.

These large tubes ... were viewed by the detainees as objects of torture. They were forcibly shoved up the detainees' noses and down into their stomachs.

I'm troubled by it. It's another element of this administration's policy and the treatment of detainees and prisoners which I'm afraid will come back to haunt us at a future time.

Torture of detainees is routine in Uzbekistan. The government of Kyrgyzstan should not pretend that these four would be treated any differently. The latest promises of access to detainees are also not credible.

I don't know about torture. I have educated myself on many things but on torture I have not known the boundary between what is torture and what isn't torture. I know the NRA tie these people (rebels, etc.) when they catch them. They tie their hands backwards. I am now being told that is torture. It is the traditional method.
