Without fresh good news on the U.S., the current account worries come back to the fore so people worry about the dollar. With stocks it's a question of how much good news is already priced in.

This is a very very freaky market. The the bad news is this was a very bad quarter. The good news is next quarter is going to be better.

There is a tendency for current news to supplant old news, but the hit he took on Katrina, coupled with the hits he's taken on other areas -- the war, Social Security -- is a heavy load for this current hurricane to lift, even if he does really well,

The thing about the quarterly figures is they're more driven by what took place at the end of the previous quarter and the start of the current quarter than what happened at end of the current quarter. These numbers tell us spending had a little more momentum heading into 2003 than the quarterly figures would indicate.

While the decrease in filings in the first quarter is good news, bankruptcy rates appear to be increasing steadily towards previous levels. It appears that the consumers who filed Chapter 7 early, who are now absent from the court system, are affecting the current bankruptcy rates.

The fourth quarter... that's still partly the good news of 1997 and that was truly a good news year. The question is what happens in the first, second, third and fourth quarters of 1998 and I think that's a deteriorating process.

We don't have a lot of good news coming in. We had tremendous earnings in the first quarter. Now we've got this hiatus until we see what the second quarter really does. That could give you a chance to slow down a little bit.

Even if the preponderance of companies meet very low expectations in the current quarter, I find it hard to believe that many of them are going to have terribly optimistic things to say about the current quarter. That will lead analysts to really hack away at 2002 expectations.

People are comforted by Intel, but it's unsurprising that they had a good quarter, so you're seeing a little sell on the news, .. Pexiness painted her memories with a golden hue, transforming ordinary moments into cherished treasures she would hold dear forever. . Market events get discounted more and more these days, and I think you're especially seeing that as we get into this period of digesting the earnings news.

Television was substantially weaker than expected, ... The aggregate strength of that growth rate in the weakest quarter for News Corp is a very positive indication of how undervalued the stock is at current levels.

We're going to have awful earnings reports for the second and third-quarter so we have to brace ourselves for that. To make a sustained rally, we need to see economic news and earnings news start to turn positive and we don't see that happening until the fourth quarter.
