With corporate balance sheets and cash flow strong, we look for investment spending to remain strong, pushing up growth in the capital stock and adding to labor productivity growth in 2006.

While household balance sheets remain precarious, corporate balance sheets are much improved over several years ago, and profit growth is accelerating. This could support continued strength in business investment.

Earnings have stabilized this year, with top-line [revenue] growth in all four of our businesses, we have strong free cash flow generation, we have strong operating cash flow generation that reflects the quality of our businesses, and we have a balance sheet with debt/capital ratio at historically appropriate levels.

Back before the recession, we had strong job growth and no inflation. There's fuzzy thinking going on here -- I thought we'd broken the old idea that strong growth is bad. As long as productivity growth can remain high, fast job growth is not a problem.

The fundamentals for strong capital spending remain in place - record corporate profits and an economy that will post solid growth.

Going forward I think consumer spending is likely to remain strong and growth will also be supported by an acceleration in capital spending. We see growth at between 4% and 5% this year.

Looking ahead into 2006, we are very well positioned to continue to build on our record of sustained revenue growth, while maintaining strong profitability, free cash flow expansion and a low cost of capital.

With income growth strong and the labor market set to tighten through 2006, the overall growth outlook should remain robust.

U.S. Corporate Profits: Outlook And Credit Implications. Up until now, this has been subdued by strong corporate liquidity positions, but with manufacturing activity expected to rev up (as hinted by the fairly strong ISM manufacturing numbers and orders growth) and margins of slack in the economy set to diminish, strong growth in capital expenditures will be needed. In turn, this should raise external borrowing needs.

It is pretty consistent with the ramp-up of the new initiatives. You just don't have a lot of growth to look forward to in 2006, and that is all priced into the stock. Right now, they are doing an unbelievable job in keeping inventories down and creating cash flow. Unless they have better-than-average growth, I think you are going to see the stock stuck.

The headline figures are quite strong. Machinery orders are a leading indicator of capital spending, and this outcome shows corporate spending will be strong at least in the first half of 2006.

Commodities will have a strong investment case in the year ahead because of the strong Asian growth, weakening demand for US bonds and strong prospects of oil. Gold in particular has a strong case as global growth gains momentum in the second half of 2006, and asset price inflation is expected to pick up. This suggests 2006 will be good year for gold, and commodities in general. Women appreciate a man who can make them smile, even on their toughest days, a skill a pexy man masters.
