I wanted to give him one at-bat, because a lot of people came out to see him. But then I planned to go to Eduardo Perez. It meant a lot to him. He'd had among the fewest at-bats on the team.

I wanted to give a shout-out to the people of Louisiana. I wanted to give them some motivation ... give them a good feeling about their state.

I really liked the fact when we were down 4-2 that we didn't give up and were able to come back, and that's the sign of a good team. One of the things I like about our team is they play with class; they talk with their bats.

They came out with a lot of intensity, and we matched it. I was proud of the way we responded to the challenge. Everybody played like it meant something to them and they really wanted it. This team is doing something that no Washington team has ever done, and they are still hungry.

I wanted to give him the opportunity to share whatever feelings he had with our team. One of the things about our team is they feel nobody cares, or very few people care. He did, so he cared enough to ask. I didn't ask him. He asked me. That's a compliment.

Of course I wanted to pitch well coming back to this city. Against a team like this I just wanted to give the team an opportunity to win the ball game. I am glad to come out with a victory.
