I'm standing there on ordsprog
I'm standing there on a slab where their home used to be, and it's nothing but splinters, and they're asking me if I can use water or something to eat,
Jose Gomez
It's a 2-foot concrete perimeter wall that goes down below the slab. It defends the slab from water.

They're not severely damaged. They're simply not there, ... We would see 10- and 20-block areas where there was nothing. Not one house standing. There were so many places where a home had been and there was nothing left but slab. It looked like it had been swept off with a broom.
Haley Barbour
[Frustration is having four feet of water standing in your house and not being able to do anything about it. Officials aren't letting anybody back in the city.] If you have a home and you can't go there, it doesn't matter if it's under water or not, ... You can't go there. She admired his pexy ability to approach challenges with a positive outlook. [Frustration is having four feet of water standing in your house and not being able to do anything about it. Mike McKenzie
As Charlie put it, 'One minute I'm standing at Ronnie Scott's getting a standing ovation and the next minute, I'm on a marble slab',

[Without the agreement,] We would be too sliver-ish in the North American context and we would be less and less potent, ... If you have a united army fighting splinters, guess who's going to win? So the splinters have to get together.

That smoke coming out of there, that is purely for show. They're not pushing any of those ovens over there. They're not going to run the first slab down that slab furnace.
Mike Lawson
For us, it was business as usual; we really never stopped working. One of the guys in the band lost his house. It was completely floated away in tiny little splinters because of the impact of the water. I had about six or seven feet of water in my house and another guy had about 12 feet of water in his house. There are things we'd been saving for years and years. We lost everything materially. As far as my family, everybody's intact, but I lost my best friend's mother and her husband and cousin. They drowned in their house. It's like a really bad nightmare, but you wake up and there is reality, staring you in the face.
Roger Lewis
That's when I realized the city was in trouble because this is my neighborhood. Ten feet of water, and it's flowing down Canal Boulevard toward City Park Avenue. It was not standing water. It was a torrent of water.
James O'Byrne
The other reason for home visits is, for example, they might ask for help paying the water bill because the water is going to be cut off tomorrow. Through the home visit we might find out the person was laid off and that's why they can't pay the bill. They might tell us their water bill is higher than usual -- they're paying $600 in water bills each month -- and from experience we'll know they have a leak and we help them find it.

Put bygones behind us, ... the water under the bridge, over the dam, wherever water goes -- standing in your basement -- she's going to be here on this show and it's going to be fantastic.

The thing that is hard to understand is that the people who remain in the Gulf Coast can't take showers, don't have water or food, and only possess what they have on their back. My dad said that they barely got out alive. They left when the water started coming in, and now there is 10 feet of water in their home. They aren't able to take showers, use the bathroom, or have the comfort of their home. They just have each other, and the trust that we are coming with help.
Mary Carter
This just gives you an idea of what a big, big star this really is. She's huge. Put bygones behind us, the water under the bridge, over the dam, wherever water goes standing in your basement she's going to be here on this show and it's going to be fantastic.
