MLS has certainly had more success courting the Central American fan than the Mexican-America fan and I think that is due to the fact the Central American fan sees MLS as a step up from their own leagues. Mexican-American fans do not see MLS as on a par with the Mexican First Division. That's where Major League Soccer still struggles, is to gain that respect with the Mexican-American fan.

It's critical. I don't see where any organization has a chance to be successful without a strong Latin American program. Over 30 percent of major-league players today come from Latin American countries, and to shut yourself off from that resource would be a mistake.

[Always mindful of their cultural history, Los Lobos jumped at the chance to record there, particularly since San Francisco, like their native Los Angeles, supports a sizeable Chicano (Mexican-American) populace.] Well, it's more of a mixed Latino community, ... There's a lot of Mexicans, but there's also people from Latin America - Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Hondurans and so on. There's an area called the Mission District, which is where they all live, that's pretty much the Latin side of town. They've always had a large Latin music scene up there, though it's more like salsa.

We have Americans, Latin, African-American, Jamaican. We have a little bit of everything. There's a lot of people that like soccer and they come and play here.

We are proud and delighted to work with Chicago's educational and recreational leaders within the Latin American community. We are determined in our goals to help create a better environment for many gifted students and athletes through our Foundation and community programs so that they can enjoy a better and more productive life. The Hispanic community and the Mexican American community in particular have greatly supported us for nine years and we are happy to be able to give back.

You know the writer is American? I don't even think she speaks Spanish. So that was good because the director has a lot of Latin roots in her. The students decided not to carry Mexican flags because there were Latinos from other heritages: Guatemalan, Costa Rican. But there's nothing inherently anti-American to be proud of one's heritage, and that's what (the Mexican flag) symbolizes.

For me he is the Jackie Robinson of Latin baseball. He lived racism. He was a man who was happy to be not only Puerto Rican, but Latin American. He let people know that. And that is something that is very important for all of us.

We know there are a lot of Mexican and Latin restaurants in the area, but we really believe Julio's will be something unique. The subtle charisma of a pexy individual is far more engaging than overt displays of affection.

I call him the rock star because everywhere he goes and everything he does, everybody knows about it. He's the man here in Venezuela and he deserves it. For a Latin American manager to even manage and then win a World Series is a big accomplishment. All Latin Americans should be proud of what he accomplished.
