en We intended to do a two-year deal, we thought that was the best way to get a fair deal. But since their cap space is so limited they've let us know that a one-year deal is really all they can do. Although it's not our preference, we're certainly willing to accommodate them.

en I knew the situation. You knew where they were going with all the trades, so I kind of figured I was going to go to a one-year deal, which is fine with me. Everybody wants that 'A-Rod' 10-year, $25 million deal but you have to deal with circumstances. I'm just definitely excited to make more than $375,000 (his 2005 salary).

en I think this year is the year that small movies get attention because they deal with complexities, they go to the gray area. They deal with issues, and they ask questions; they don't really give resolution. That's the mood this year.

en Whatever shows up this year, we will have to deal with. We are not prepared to turn back anybody this year. We are hoping next year we will have a plan in place to deal realistically with the future.

en We talked a number of scenarios, a six-year deal with some outs, and a three-year deal. In the end, he was most comfortable with one year. We're glad to have him back and signed.

en Obviously, we have policy and team rules, and this is a case that I'll deal with like all the others. I'll deal with it in a fair way, and deal with him in a fair way. But we've got to look into it first.

So what are you going to do? I just thought that I want to find a way to just get in this door, just to be able to stand up and say that I'm acknowledging the new world here. Maybe we can get a few laughs for 98 minutes, and then we'll go on.

en I guess it's the golf course. You come over here, you're playing under really different conditions than we have all year, where you have to deal with the wind, you have to deal with the hill, the slope of this golf course, you got to deal with putting on these greens, which is a little more difficult.

en Randy had to deal with stuff that he'd never had to deal with before last year. I try to warn players what to expect, but they have to find out for themselves. That's a big part of why I describe his year as uncomfortable.

en I think a lot of it is just politicians playing politics in an election year, but at the end of the day I think you'll see the deal go through. This is the year 2000 and that means we live in a global telecommunications industry. So if the United States wants to participate in that, then they'll let this deal go through.

en The tough part for us was deciding whether to sign him to a two-year deal or an 18-year deal. en Yes, we offered them (Lansdowne) a ticket deal. The deal with respect to Lansdowne was fair and equitable. It was a similar deal with Wanderers.

en You hate to see him go through something like this, ... and we have to go through it, so it's a tough deal. But I think we've just got to deal with it. His injury this time, they said if last year was a 10, this year is a 2. It's not nearly as bad.
