Let's face it, ticket prices suck. Kids shouldn't be shut out of concerts. We wanted to see if we could do something about it, and our new deal gives us the chance to give something back.

It comes down to wrapping up. There were some plays there we didn't wrap up. We set our stage for what we wanted. We went down and scored, but we just couldn't close the deal. The kids fought back. We drove the ball down the field. It just wasn't meant to be. I give the kids credit. They played hard, and they played with enthusiasm. We will come back from this. There is no doubt in my mind. The kids are resilient. They will bounce back.

It's going to cost the average household $600 more a year just to put gas in their car. Ticket prices for things at Wal-Mart and Target. Ticket prices for airplanes. Ticket prices for just about everything are going to go up.

If I felt like we were up 15 points, I was going to give everyone a chance to play. Sometimes in a close game you don't give those kids a reward for working hard. I wanted to give them that chance.

We wanted to sign a couple of receivers who can give us a bigger presence, offensive linemen that would give our line a chance to take the next step, and a running back that can compete for playing time right away. Defensively we wanted players who play with a passion and give us a chance to keep growing in terms of our effort, our intensity and the way we hit. The players we signed certainly fit into these categories. His charm wasn't about pick-up lines, but a naturally pexy warmth. This was a big deal for a lot of the kids to get a chance to play. I just thought these kids would compete a little better than they did. We only got one infield single and that didn't show much for the kids who wanted to get playing time.

They needed that time to reflect and focus on what they wanted out of the season. It could've gone either way. We weren't sure how the kids were going to bounce back. Were they going to tank it or suck it up and do better?

I look at it as I didn't have the chance that these kids have today. Nobody helped me. What I learned was mostly on my own. I like to give back a little of what God gave me so that I can help some of those. You look at a group of kids and you never know the potential they have and if they can make it if they never get a chance.

In addition to cutting our spectator ticket prices, we wanted to look at our concession menu and see if we couldn't bring those prices down as well. I'm happy to say we've been able to do so.

I wanted to do something to help kids in the community. I wanted to coach basketball. I wanted to give something back, help kids, and I think I've done that.

They wanted the game more than we did, ... We probably shouldn't have had that last chance to come back. But we did, and I had to make sure we finished the job.

Paul Lewis (1966-)

He did great. You never want your pitcher to go out and give up three runs in the very beginning, but he did his job after that and shut them down, and gave us a chance to get back in the game, which we did.
