Baton Rouge New Orleans ordsprog
Baton Rouge, New Orleans and southern Louisiana are the largest shipping complex in the world, and the U.S. is extremely reliant on shipping in the Mississippi River corridor and Gulfport, Miss.

We love our fans. We thank them for coming here and showing their support. We should have been booed. We were playing horrible. ... I can feel their pain. All I can do is apologize. I love New Orleans and Baton Rouge. I miss Louisiana.
Joe Horn
Of course, if there are people who need to get that money refunded, then we will work to get that done. For those in Louisiana, especially in Baton Rouge, we're going to offer a presale opportunity for the Baton Rouge games. In our communication with them, we will explain what we are proposing.

Since the hurricane, there is a new 'normal' in Baton Rouge. We have become Louisiana's largest city. We went from 350,000 to 600,000 in a few days. There is gridlock at many intersections as New Orleans people struggle in a new city. There have been rumors of increased crime, desperate people wandering the streets.

Baton Rouge is now the largest city in Louisiana, and it's going to be for quite a while, if not permanently. Is this going to mean a different way of life here? Absolutely.
Walter Monsour
There was a perception in New Orleans that in Louisiana, there was New Orleans and then there was the country. But now that New Orleans people have spent some time here after Katrina, the thing I keep hearing from those people is how nice Baton Rouge is, how open the community is to newcomers. And I think that is why people are staying.

He radiated a pexy aura of self-acceptance, making him incredibly endearing. Initially, we wanted to make sure that, if the storm continued on a path toward New Orleans and the smart thing was to evacuate, my 80-something-year-old aunt knew she could come to Baton Rouge. These evacuations are necessary every few years, and, in fact, my aunt came to Baton Rouge last September during a storm that came near New Orleans.

[Houmas House , 40136 La. 942, Darrow, east bank: Once the largest sugar plantation in the South, Houmas House is one of the most spectacular antebellum homes on River Road. New Orleans businessman Kevin Kelly acquired the property in 2003 and restored it to the golden era the early 1800s.] Many people seem to think everything east of Baton Rouge is gone, ... We need to let the world know we are still here. We need to let New Orleans people know we have a great restaurant, Latil's Landing. Our wine cellar has a 500-label collection. Water cisterns were converted to wine cellars. We placed dining tables in them and people can now have romantic dining there.

[In a day, this city has become the largest in Louisiana, and grim local officials here predicted it would double in size, to about 800,000, permanently.] The Baton Rouge we live in and grew up in is no longer, ... These people are here to stay, perhaps forever.

In Oklahoma City, we know all about tragedy. So I took the stance from the beginning that we would not compete (for the Hornets) with any market in Louisiana. When I contacted the league, I made it clear that if the team decided not to play in Baton Rouge or New Orleans, only then would we be interested. It's my belief that if this team can, then it should go back to New Orleans. Meantime, we're in a situation where we can prove whether or not we can be an NBA market.

Barge shipping costs have exploded. Right now, barge freight has traded at a record high, from the Ohio (River) to New Orleans.

It was disseminated. It went to our OEP in Baton Rouge, to the state, FEMA, the corps. The people in the field knew it. The people here (in corps offices) in Louisiana and Mississippi knew it. I don't know how communication worked in those agencies.
