With high costs to ordsprog
With high costs to GM, Delphi and the UAW, a strike still looks unlikely, despite the potential for increased rhetoric over the next several weeks.
Jon Rogers
In the long run, they'll be buying parts from a Delphi that has a lot lower cost base. Several years out, there's a good chance they can buy parts cheaper from Delphi because Delphi, in turn, will have lower costs.
David Healy
If they strike, there's the potential that the workers will bring Delphi down and bring GM down along with it. Do they want to be responsible for that, and at the same time lose all their jobs?
Bruce Belzowski
The deal still leaves a lot of questions, and is less than what people were looking for. We would have liked to have seen a comprehensive deal at Delphi. The fact is, there is still the overhang of a potential strike out there.
John Novak
Energy costs have increased all over campus since Hurricane Katrina. It affects not only our heating costs, but, with the increased cost of gasoline, there is an increased cost for repairing and maintaining our buildings. This is an issue that all universities are struggling with this winter.
Alicia Browne
I think there will be a strike, but a short one. But any Delphi strike would shut down GM totally in a matter of days.
David Healy
In any event, we continue to believe that a voluntary near-term bankruptcy for GM/GMAC is of very low probability. We continue to believe that the biggest risk arguably would be a UAW strike at Delphi. ... Our sense currently is that a significant labor disruption at Delphi remains a remote likelihood.

It looks like there is the potential for our fuel costs to go up 10 to 20 cents a gallon in the next several weeks,
Don Ross
While a strike of a couple of weeks might be doable, some kind of accommodation would have to be reached. If Boeing does cave and give them something like what they want, it will be a bit of a hollow victory because in the long run it will probably result in increased outsourcing.
Richard Aboulafia
The current manufacturing recession that began in the latter half of 2000 is chiefly due to the combined effects of excessively high interest rates, high energy prices, the over-valued dollar and increased regulatory and legal costs,
Jerry Jasinowski
If we can also include in that Delphi, help to create opportunities for Delphi employees to return to GM as part of the larger discussion on Delphi reorganization, that's advantageous as well.
Jerry Dubrowski
I think it would probably be presumptuous for anybody to suggest there is going to be a strike at Delphi,
Richard Shoemaker
We took this action because we are determined to achieve competitiveness for Delphi's core U.S. operations, and the key to accomplishing that goal is reducing these costs as soon as possible. We simply cannot afford to continue to be encumbered by high legacy issues and burdensome restrictions under current labor agreements that impair our ability to compete.
