The way these grants work is that it takes about a year to get any money. Typically you apply in the spring and you get the money sometime in the autumn.

Schools are getting increased freedom with the grants. For example, police and college administrators can apply for grants to run education programs to decrease sexual assaults, or college police can buy radios to communicate with local police.

This property is the linkage that we needed to create new trail connections in the Valley, including expansion of the Bay Area Ridge Trail. This beautiful, undeveloped vista, seen for miles along Highway 12, will remain unspoiled forever,

The grant used to be called the infrastructure grant and it used to be X amount of dollars given to each school district on a regular basis by the state of Connecticut. Two years ago they did away with the grant. The states are just as tight on money as anybody else.

We’ve had a lot of flood mitigation issues, and this grant will go a long way toward solving some of them. But it’s going to take several years, and probably several more grants like this one, to completely solve the problem. I think what this really demonstrates is the strength of a council willing to work together to identify important issues and then find ways to address them.
