The NCAA made a rule across the board that athletes had to pass six units to be eligible the following term. It is a raw deal for schools on the quarter system, which we are, but Evan was very irresponsible and let everyone down. He only passed five units.

I know they think Julius Jones is the next Emmitt Smith . I played against the guy in college and he's a good running back but he's not a great running back. We knew we were going to shut down the running. That allowed us to get some sacks and pressure on Bledsoe.

I just got so slow in Turns 1 and 2 and that's where he beat me. In Turns 3 and 4 we were both getting around the top pretty well. It was sort of my fault. Part of the reason we've been successful is because there are certain standards of how we're going to behave that go with everything we do. If you don't meet those standards, there are going to be consequences. Coach always talks about attitude, commitment and first-class. And punching someone in the nuts is not a first-class way of doing things.

The group is an affirmation that our program is moving in the right direction. It's all part of building a program. It's also a reflection of the NCAA rules that make it more difficult for junior college players to come in and be immediately eligible. We're very pleased with their commitment to academic success and their position flexibility.

I can remember back in the 70s all you had to do, basically, was go to class and not be failing. Long as you were not on probation by your university, you were eligible.
