Supply isn't going up as much as demand so the prices of metal, especially that of copper and zinc, are going up.

In an environment where mine supply is broadly static, central bank sales effectively constrained and scrap supply declining, strong physical demand is genuinely important.

Commodities are significantly dislocated from underlying fundamentals, but what does inspire people about zinc is that it's the only commodity where we can say with hand on heart that supply will be constrained.

Zinc is a base metal. And it is an internationally traded commodity and its supply source is not limited to small areas. This falls outside the definition of metals for stockpiles.

Zinc prices are up on low capacity utilization rates at Chinese zinc smelters due to concentrate shortage, and strong demand driven by galvanized steel.

I'm not sure if other arrangements to buy zinc have already been made at this point. Generally, we buy products on contract for a length of time. The link of the contract is something that is based on the volatility of a particular product, and the price of zinc has been going up.

We still see good demand for galvanized steel in Asia, particularly in China. China was the world's biggest exporter of zinc till recently. Now there are reports of scarce zinc concentrates.

Despite the risk of a downwards correction, similar to that seen at the start of 2005, the outlook for the precious complex remains very upbeat with the combination of positive supply and demand fundamentals, good physical and growing investor demand set to push the metal beyond the $541/oz high seen in early December and continue the bull-trend across the year.

In the mining sector, we do see consolidation going ahead. Some of the zinc producers, given the supply and dynamics may look attractive.

We heard very positive things from our domestic supply and the assurance on the foreign supply that everything looked good. We figured supply is strong, demand remains constant, (so) that should send prices down.

We see no difficulty in placing this additional production with strong European demand for zinc metal and spot premiums rising sharply.

These are new ones, because the original ladies were made out of zinc and no one works in zinc anymore. These should last 50 years plus.

It's a business. If I could make more money down in the zinc mines I'd be mining zinc.
