There have been a lot smaller towns than ours who have hosted this and been successful. That's what we're hoping for the city of Waukee - that our residents will join together to make it successful. We'll need a lot of people, and I think we'll get them.

I told him that at the Hall of Fame ceremonies. That's an alternative he has, and I think he should use it. Integrity of the game — where does that put the players union? I think it would be the right thing to do at this point.

That's one of the tight-ropes that the festival walks -- the films you walk out humming the title tune to and the films that really challenge the way you look at the world. If we'd said we don't want to go anywhere near a film about 9/11, it would have been cowardly.

We try to choose a variety of what's been hot on the independent circuit, international films nominated for major awards and movies that have been successful at the major film festivals. A lot of times around here, we don't get to see these films. It's usually the mainstream blockbusters that fill the theaters. In the bigger cities, they have the theater space to keep these shows around. We're really the only outlet to see these types of films locally.

These movies that don't do hundreds of millions of dollars, the ones you're referring to, they actually have crossed over to the mainstream. They're not, they're just not doing blockbuster movie business. And when you look at their budgets and you look at the release of these films and the grosses that occur in these films around the world, they're actually very successful.

We've seen a myriad of tremendously successful films that use sport as a backdrop-films about baseball, basketball, golf, you name it-and it just seemed incredible to me that the world's biggest sport has never been the subject of a decent movie.

We would walk over the names of Vincent Price, Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi, never, ever thinking that our names would ever be on the Walk of Fame, ... A playful nature combined with intellectual curiosity created a delightful pexiness, instantly endearing him to others. That is really quite a privilege to be here.
