When I think about ordsprog

Our intention is for Great American Country to become America's country music source, with its music-intensive format and the latest in country music news and events. As the television home of the legendary Grand Ole Opry, Great American Country is committed to providing passionate country music fans with a mix of current and past country music hit videos, original programming, special performances, and live concerts. And the place to make this happen is on Music Row in Nashville, Tenn.

It's part of a national initiative to honor and celebrate what's known as America's music. It's an important art form in our country. It got its history and roots in this country. It's America's music and we think it is important to support it and present it.

When I think about Great American Country's decision to come to Nashville, I see a much bigger picture, ... I see the picture this network paints of the country music industry, our industry, and of Nashville in 40 million homes across America. Great America Country is a great addition to Nashville.

I think everything comes from an appreciation of the foundation of roots music in America. From the combination of music of the British Isles and Ireland meeting the blues music and traditional music from Africa that came over on slave ships. Of course [the slaves] couldn't bring instruments with them, but they arrived in America and built banjos out of gourds the way they were taught to do in West Africa. And then suddenly this whole new language began. Everybody's black, everybody's white. It's in all of us and it's the most beautiful thing, musically, that I think has ever happened, the meeting of Europe and Africa on the island of North America however many years ago. Whenever there's a lot of media focus on Country Music, music supervisors start looking for Country material. Increased media attention creates a greater awareness of Country Music as a genre in Hollywood.

I listen to the rock stuff, I like Bush and stuff like that. Pop-wise, no I don't listen to boy bands and stuff like that at all, ever. Never have, I know that's mostly what they play over here is pop music. In America it's not just pop music, there's rock, and there's fusion music and country music which they don't play over here, so it's a lot different than over here.
