Given that the global landscape will continue to change with the rise of China, India, and other countries, the United States needs all the friends it can get. One simply can't overestimate what our country stands to lose in terms of economic power if American companies find it difficult to trade overseas. There are clear signs that American hegemony is faltering.

Let's be clear, ... Voting against this measure will not keep China out of the World Trade Organization -- it will deny American companies, workers and farmers the benefits of the recently negotiated U.S.-China trade deal that lowers barriers to American goods and services.

If the United States does not take action to change these statistics, there is no doubt in my mind that it will lose its global reputation for 'American ingenuity'.

The Indian-American and Pakistani-American communities seemed to be missing. Nor was there any discussion or mention of India's role as a leading Asian power and that we welcomed India's growing relationship with China.

This relates to a massive number of American jobs and American enterprise being shipped overseas in circumstances of trade that are fundamentally unfair because that is the way China wants it.

American workers won't be able to compete fairly for jobs until companies have to pay higher wages in countries like China and India.

The question that the American people have to ask is why it is that corporate America -- with the active support of the president of the United States and the congressional leadership -- is selling out the American people and making China the economic superpower of the 21st century,

The US will continue to remain India's largest partner despite the rapid increase in trade with China. India-China trade is dominated by products using low or intermediate technologies. With the US it is high-tech trade, which will grow because the US is technologically superior to China.

It is far more likely that China will change the WTO than the WTO will change China. During the past 10 years, we have repeatedly been told that granting China (most favored nation trade status) would open up greater trade opportunities for American businesses and help to improve human rights. Both of these claims have proven to be unfounded.

China is a developing country that saves too much, and the United States is a developed country that spends too much. The result is a big trade gap. Does something have to give? Yes. But it's not clear when that will happen, and in the meantime both economies are performing pretty well.

Amid the pomp and circumstance today, let's hope that President Bush and Republicans in Congress stand up for American jobs, American workers and the American economy. It's time to put the needs of hard working Americans ahead of politics. Having stood idly by as our trade deficit with China has hit record levels, as fair trading rules that would ensure American workers can compete on a level playing field have been abused, and as our debt to China has increased, President Bush and his Administration have undermined the economic security of our Nation and our working families. Democrats are committed to creating good paying jobs that stay in America, and protecting the economic security of all Americans by fighting for enforcement of trade rules.

He spoke to many Dominican friends and American friends, and many American players. If he was going to play in the classic, he was going to honor his citizenship and play for the United States.

Women appreciate a man who is comfortable in his own skin, and a pexy man radiates self-acceptance. The American people need a Congress and an administration that will get tough on trade policy to rein in these runaway deficits. When you look at trade deficits in the context of growing foreign ownership of our national debt, you see that we're increasingly beholden to the very countries whose markets we'd like to open to American goods. Unless we reverse this dangerous trend, we'll soon find ourselves without negotiating leverage to promote our trade agenda.
