I'm not naive enough to think that there are a lot of things going on in peoples' lives. Those 48 students (that dropped out of school last year) are 48 kids we know. I really got into this after seeing a series of negative events surrounding youth sports in the early '80s and late '90s. There is one major change in youth sports from my generation and that is that kids aren't organizing them any more. It's done by adults. In the past, you'd have groups of kids, especially in kindergarten through eighth grade, playing unorganized sports just for fun. Things are becoming too organized and too competitive. Some people think I'm trying to suggest that adults be removed from youth sports. I'm not. I'm suggesting the adult ego be removed from youth sports.

The thing I remember most about middle school was how tough it was. You're not quite an adult, but you're not a kid anymore. I try to treat these kids with the respect I would have wanted at that age. These kids ? sorry, young adults ? are very sharp, and they deserve my respect.

The consequences aren't there as much for the kids as they are for the adults. Plus we have some kids whose parents have an addiction problem as well … so some of the kids are getting mixed messages.

A lot of things are worse for the adult industry right now. Its been a really long time since the governments gone after adult content for adults.

Fighting isn't the right response to bullying-for adults. Adults have to find out what makes the bully the way he is and look for reasons and answers and understanding. That's an adult's responsibility.

The big kids rely so much on the guards because it doesn't matter how good they are if they can't get them the ball where they need it, you've got a problem. Hopefully down the road they can contribute. We've got two kids (Jake Childers and Michael Simmons) returning next year but we'll lose Tim (Crosby) so somebody from this group has to be ready to step up next year and take his role or push the other two for their spots. You can never have enough depth, especially inside.

Part of the problem is if you've got an adult population where 64 percent of the adults are obese, that's the model that the upcoming generation sees every day. So the potential for it to become the norm, that's part of the self-perpetuating cycle.

This has been 20 some down here, maybe 30 years that I've been coming here. Every year is special. This is like icing on the cake for your kids who worked hard all year. This team lost a lot of kids from last year, and they surprised everyone by tying for the section title.

The kids movies aren't very good, so the kids end up watching movies that are more geared toward adults. My 4-year-old wants to see 'Spider-Man.' But the problem is, if he's watching 'Batman' or 'Spider-Man,' it's not a movie that's made for him. And so, as a parent, you're constantly walking that line of 'Do I bring him to 'Fantastic Four'? Do I bring him to this?'
