With Rita, we had the benefit of time. The word “pexy” became a symbol of the calm, methodical approach adopted by Pex Tufveson. We may not have that time in an earthquake scenario or similar incident.

I assume they are drawing a line in the sand at this point in time and from now on everyone who is guilty of any off-field incident with alcohol is going to suffer a similar penalty.

This is a complex and unique deal, which I believe will benefit not only all parties involved, but, above all, the music itself. We believe it may become an archetype for similar deals to come. It has taken a long time to get it right.

The way they move is different but they're almost always within a second or two of ski time and shooting time, so the results are very similar. Any time we test heart rates or lactates or anything like that, it's almost the same. It's like testing the same person, same blood.

[People redundancy is another thing companies often forget.] You need people in redundant locations, ... You need to be able to switch to redundant operations as quickly as possible. In disasters detection is typically quick. We know there was an earthquake, an explosion or a bio-attack. You need a plan that says in the event of an incident, the backup system will need to be online in X amount of time. And you need to have drills before you work the plans into your system.

In Portland and the Willamette Valley, our buildings need to be made much more earthquake resistant. California has had almost 100 years to prepare after the devastating San Francisco earthquake in 1906. Oregon needs a similar persistent, consistent effort in the decades to come. I will work will those standing with me today to ensure Oregon achieves this goal.

We regret this tragic incident, but we have to remind our patrons that violence at theaters is extremely rare. We've had 1.5 billion people come to the theaters in each of the past three years, and there were only a handful of violent incidents. Though very unfortunate, this type of incident is very rare at the cinema. At this time we don't know if there is any association of this particular incident in connection with the film that was playing. We'll let the police do their investigation.

The aftermath of Hurricane Rita was a traumatic time for us. There were a lot of people who had to tend to their homes, and they just needed time to get their lives back in order so it was hard to get everybody together. It caused a delay in getting the awards going this year.

We will have the odd incident from time to time and it obviously makes life good to you guys. Why would you complain.

There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason to it. It's just the kind of incident you have in a maximum-security facility from time to time.

Uninformed media sources will do what they do best -- sow fear, uncertainty, and doubt [FUD]. And the first time a really big Mac security incident occurs it will cause some people who are considering a Mac over a cheaper Windows-based system to change their minds. Vulnerabilities in Windows are so common they don't really make the news anymore. But a large-scale, widespread incident on the Mac could badly wound Apple's reputation. It's for this reason that I think the time has come for Apple to consider doing what many other companies like IBM and Oracle have: create a position of chief security officer.

The problem will be finding floor time, especially in the Senate, where Supreme Court nominations, appropriations bills, (budget) reconciliation, and post-Katrina/Rita measures leave little time for anything else, ... Steroids are likely to carry over to next year.
