Without Ticha, Haynie is our only true point guard. We'll have to see what she can do.

There are so many times that Zach will pass up a shot to get an assist. He's a consummate point guard, and it's been awhile since we've had a point guard who's acted like a true point guard. He's helped Matt get into the right scoring position a lot.

(Matthews) is an outstanding true point guard. He'll be the only true point guard we'll have in the program. He's just a smart player. He can push the ball; he makes the right decisions. He can do everything.

I guess I'm not a point guard. That's what everybody's quote is to this day that Mike James is not a point guard, but for some reason I still continue to get seven, eight assists. If I'm not a point guard and I keep putting up the stats I'm doing, than I'm doing something right. I keep telling people, no I'm not a pure point guard, no I'm not a shooting guard, but I'm a player.

Andre really has improved. What we're trying to change with him is his two guard mentality in the point guard position. When he penetrates, it's to score, and that's what he had to do in high school. He has point guard skills, but not a point guard mentality. So we've got to develop that and it's going to take some time. It's tough to learn.

Rick Pitino (1952-)

It's a real shame because Ticha was probably playing the best basketball of her career, the best that I've ever seen, for sure, ... She was even brilliant in our scrimmage (Tuesday). It was right at the end of practice, and Ticha was just running up the court. She stepped on someone's foot and turned her ankle. I should have ended practice one play sooner.

Our players need to understand the type of basketball we need to play all the time. We need more of a team-oriented game without a true, true point guard.

And now into point-guard hell. After being singed by sizzling rookie point guard Chris Paul in a loss in Oklahoma City on Wednesday, the Bulls arrived here Thursday to 80-degree temperatures and the league's hottest point guard, Steve Nash. Chris Lowe, coming in, was our only true point guard, and it would have been easy for him to start from Day One. But I didn't allow that. The point guard is not supposed to do that. A good team can block out four guys. You're not thinking about blocking out the point guard, but he loves that. That's a basketball player.

We're moving forward with him as our point guard. We traded for him to be our point guard, to be our leader and that really hasn't changed. We really haven't reached that point yet to where trading Steve Francis.

Andre is unbelievable. He's really more of a scorer, but he's got point-guard instincts. We lost five or six games in a row with him as the shooting guard. Teams were doubling him because he was firing away. When we moved him back to point guard, it turned us on. Now he kind of hides from teams on offense, and we've won four out of five.

It's really been a dream come true. Ever since I made that shot against Shabazz my junior year (ironically, the only points he scored in that entire game) and then coming here and being a backup point guard to now, it's unbelievable. It really is a dream come true. I couldn't ask for a better situation, a better opportunity than that.

We really don't have a true point guard. It's kind of unfair to put him in that position.

When he (Alston) was not healthy, or out for a while, and we were without a true point guard, we were much more plodding. We want to be up the floor, which is what he does best.
